Crimson Drivers

Rienks

I heard from a lot of people with the new Crimson drivers from AMD have fried their GPUs due to overheating because of a bug that sets GPU fan speed to 20% or something like that. Is this happening to anyone here and can you describe to me the issues. I just brought a R9 390X so I don't know what I should do

I don't have any problems with the new Drivers. I run R9 290X in CF and have one Fury X. Didn't have any issues with it so far.

As far as I know it may burn non reference OC'ed cards. I would wait until AMD fixes it and use CCC meanwhile.

RIP MSI 390X. What should I do? Just don't OC it?

Only some cards are affected, no all.

Hotfix driver out shortly. Just dont use them for the time being (rollback to previous driver if your affected)

Monitor your GPU fan speeds when gaming is all anyone can say to do... or dont use them drivers.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

It should work. And do some testing, turn on MSI afterburner and monitor your temps while gaming. So you could see if you are affected.

If you aren't sure about the new drivers, then just wait for AMD to fix the issues and then install the new drivers.

I'm running a Fury X, R9 270X, R9 390X, 2x R9 290's, as well as two Firepro W7000; all between my test beds, and workstation, and all on crimson, and doing just fine.

Hmm okay

Should be noted though i've not actually watched my workstation's innards while working to see if the fans were spinning or not, the thing gets fucking hot already, so I didn't bother to check speeds.

If you're skeptical, then just watch your temps in game with msi afterburner. If you hit like 80c on anything not a 3/290/X, then perhaps look into it.

Read that thread again. The people affected are the ones running Tahiti chips. Though, I won't advise you to update to that crimson driver. Wait till a fix come out. Or just use 15.11.1.
