Hi guys,

I'm currently using a i7 - 2600 wich is making a little bit of bottle neck for my tasks, mostly gaming but also 3D and vfx. I'm thinking about upgrading it to a new socket, but I can't decide between the i7 4790k or the 6700k, knowing that changing to the 6700k is making me spend about 200€ more than the 4790k since I need to change the ram to DDR4 too.

Is the 6700k worth it? Or it would be a better idea to upgrade to the 4790k? I know it is a good cpu but I need to know if changing to that socket now is worth it, or it will be better to pick the 6700k for the next years.

Thank you in advance! :D

the 6700k is not $200 better than the 4790k

if your 2600 is a bottleneck maybe see if you can get a 5820k for cheap, it will be better than the 4790k or 6700k for what you are doing

The 2600 is still a pretty strong CPU, if you're having trouble with that then you might want to step it up to the x99 platform as @LeapFrogMasterRace and @Ender have suggested.

LGA1150 has already been replaced by LGA1151, so while it's a little cheaper you'll also have no upgrade path.

If you go LGA2011-3, you'll at least have access to Broadwell-E. I can't imagine needing more than 10c/20t for the next 3 or 4 years. Perhaps even longer.

1150 Will be arround for some more Years i think, so yeah. I´d spend on the 4790k now and in a few Years 6700k

1150 has already been replaced, I imagine you'll stop seeing further production and stocks will quickly deplete.

So youre saying if I or someone else need/want to build a new PC for Gaming, they should go for 1151 ?

Very very tight is? Im on like a 900

It's Black Friday, it should be pretty easy to fit 1151 into the build.

Wow, thank you guys for the fast response. My idea is buy a processor that can last a least for 3-4 years, my 2600 is not causing a lot of trouble but it shows that it is a bit "old".

I've been looking for the 5820k, but it is a bit expensive because of the motherboard and the ddr4 ram. I will think about it but maybe the 4790k fits better my budget
