get the 290. don't think twice. price for performance. can't beat it.. and if you're worried about the heat from reading the reviews............ my 380 burns like the sun......... it did until the new crimson driver let you re-enable manual fan control....

I was about to purchase MSI's R9 380 on newegg for 200 usd, but I glanced over the R9 290 from VisionTek for 20 USD more then the 380. Does the 20 dollars make any difference?

Both have 4gig vram by the way

Yes.  290 is faster than a 380.

But the VisionTek 290 has a reference cooler, and we all know what that's like...

Someone here's running a 290 on a 400W PSU... somehow xD

Because a 290 and my system pulls 350w from the wall. The wattage requirements listed are so blown out of proportion.

these numbers are pretty much on. but there are PS's I wouldn't use that are 400W.

If I overclock the 290 to match my 390 at 1100MHz core and 1500MHz memory it still only pulls 370w. A really good 450w PSU would do it, I wouldn't but I bet it would :lol: . If I was to replace my RM750 (which ran the 290 and 390 in crossfire both overclocked) I'd get a 550w.

 

OP, name is EVERYTHING when it comes to GPUs. Not Nvidia or AMD, that doesn't mean shit. But Sapphire, MSI, etc. Friends don't let friends waste money on shit GPU's. Get a Sapphire 290 if you can find one, they perform on pare with a Nitro 390.
