Asus GTX 970 Turbo 4GB

no_clntrol

I am looking for some opinions on getting this card or not. Found this one at about 40% off and I am in desperate need of a new pc. Reading reviews tells me that this card is good, but delivers only 3.5GB instead of 4, and has a problem with coil whine. Please help :)

You may or may not get coil whine with any card, although 970's are known for that.If you are getting a 40% discount,go for it

Alright, I don't really mind it being loud, my current PC is like a 747 boeing when it comes to being loud. But what about the 3.5GB vram, is that something I should take in consideration?

it has a tendency to run very, very hot. the 960 turbo has the VRMs reach 100*C - 970 Turbo has them around 110*C

The 3.5GB VRAM just means on games that are VRAM intensive you might run out and experience a lot of slowdowns and stuttering.

Not really.i have the 970 myself and works great. If you were to buy at full price, the 390 would be the winner, but if you can get the 970 with 40% discount, the 970 anyday

Yeah I've heard a lot about those 2 being like rivals.. may I ask what setup you are running and what kind of frame rates you are getting?

I have the i3 4160 and the 970g1.The performance is quite good, although i have some frame drops at fallout, only at big cities, because FO4 is quite cpu intensive.Turning down God rays and vision distance helps a lot.About frame rate,i have 60 because i use v-sync,just to eliminate screen tearing

AMD cards aren't that good either, my 290's VRM's are as hot as the surface of the sun

I wonder why don't they find a proper solution for that

What is your cooling setup? I suppose aftermarket cooling is the way to go if you're overclocking or pushing your GPU to the max

Asus is the problem here not NVidia. Asus just doesn't cool them at all, while MSI Sapphire and EVGA do.

Gigabyte as well - Nvidia cards have the VRMs at the front for some reason making it a bit trickier I believe
