What graphics card to get for a 2560x1080p ultrawide monitor?

jamesfindlay3
I am Thinking about getting a 980 (evga) for this monitor

( http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&sku=225-4201 ) but i just wanted to know if a 970 would run games/normal applications happily at this resolution. So should I go for a 980 or 970 and can a 970 run this resolution with games e.t.c.

Thank you.

MSI 980 is $380 brand new rn and that may be the cheapest it'll be for a while so if you are going down the 980 route you should act fast. anything above or on par with an R9 290 or gtx 970 will deliver a very enjoyable experience on most games maxed out. If you want to play the most demanding games maxed out like witcher 3 and gta 5, the 980ti is still the only single gpu card up to the task.

More like a $30 price difference now that the MSI 390x is $350 and the MSI 980 is $380. The MSI 980 still plays games better most of the time out of the box given that a lot of games are gimped by Nvidia and the 980 runs at much higher clockspeeds with gpu boost.
