is ultra wide gaming worth it?

0xust wondering if resolutions like 2560 x 1080 or 3440x1440 are supported by many games and if it is would it be worth it to make the switch I know Linus used as an ultra wide monitor for everyday use and for gaming but I just wanted some other people's opinion and owners opinions

Some games support it natively and will extend the viewing angle, some games will stretch out and look nasty, some games will simply not support it and you'll play with black bars on the side...it depends. Overtime i think it will get better and better though.

 

I much rather have 2560x1440 vs 2560x1080 though that's a given...and 3440x1440 are VERY expensive if you want a good one with Gsync/freesync and shit...and they are also a bit harsh on GPU's...you'll need another GTX980 to drive this resolution properly in demanding games IMHO.

Very worth it. I love it, I will never go back. Especially if you are someone who plays online. I can survive playing rpg's like fallout on my tv which is 16:9 but I will never do something like counter strike or battlefield at anything less than 21:9 Older games might have trouble, like reaaaaly old games though.

it depends but the price for a nice unit with a 100hz refresh rate 3440x1440 for example with Gsync or Freesync you'll pay like 1300$+ for such a monitor which is getting a bit crazy IMHO...i paid 950$ CAN for my acer monitor and even that i thought was COMPLETELY insane i woke up the next morning asking: ''have i really ordered that...gosh!!''

Create a custom 21:9 resolution that fits within ur current monitors res. Set the scaling to GPU un-scaled and ull end up with a letterbox 21:9 image. Try games see which work.

i think most will agree that 2560x1440 is better than 2560x1080 and they cost about the same...so yeah...unless you have lots of money to burn on a good 1440 ultrawide i see no point in doing that.

I was actually looking at the LG monitor and I actually have that BenQ monitorbut I don't know I'm just looking for something new to give me a different experience I was going to get a 34 inch 3 440 by 1440 monitor but they are far too expensive but monitors like that LG are the perfect price point for me and to be honest I don't think you're really going to be able to tell a difference between 1080 And 1440

I switched to a 21:9 2560x1080 display and I love it, I would never go back to a 16:9 display for my main monitor.

have you tried it with recent titles like Fallout 4 Batman Arkham Knight Mad Max excetra? I know there is a software that fixes most games that have an issue with ultra wide but I'm just wondering if you have had any problem running racing games natively without having to use that software

well I have a GTX 980 so I'm pretty sure I'll be able to run it fine since I'm using a 1440p monitor right now

no point in getting a 2560x1080 monitor if you already own a 2560x1440...just set your custom resolution to 2560x1080 and voilà!

Couldn't agree more. You can just set your resolution to 2560x1080 in the control panel.

yes...but those are not there on the 2560x1080...otherwise it's the same thing...same resolution.

21:9 gaming is definitely nice. I never go back to 16:9 resolution anymore.
