Google Chrome ending support for older versions of Windows and OS X Soon..

Why Google ? Why?

chrome.png

Alas, the time has come, Begone ye old banished viking OS , it's time to swag things up a bit, Google has officially announced that it's ending it's support for older version of operating system for PC & Mac versions, Now don't worry, you will still be able to install run the browsers to a certain version , but the updates won't work & it'll pretty much be stagnant without further improvement, but still browsable tho..

Starting April 2016, Chrome will continue to function on these platforms but will no longer receive updates or security fixes..

Support ends for these versions of Operating systems:

Windows:

  • Windows XP
  • Windows Vista,

Apple:

  •  Mac OS X 10.6,
  • 10.7
  • 10.8

Google have provided a statement the main reason is that these platforms are no longer actively supported by Microsoft and Apple , meaning not properly updated & maintained , in a nutshell older platforms are missing critical security updates and have a greater potential to be infected by viruses and malware.

Chrome running on windows XP Operating system

If you are still on one of these unsupported platforms, we encourage you to move to a newer operating system to ensure that you continue to receive the latest Chrome versions and features..

                                                                                                                                   - Marc Pawliger

Pretty sad news for those who are using an older pc with an older OS running on the background who is used to browsing on Chrome who relied on up to date secure browser

OSX 10.8 was released in 2012 so you guys can stop complaining about supporting Vista.

I personnally like when Google drop support for things. I helps make things moving foward like when they dropped support for IE6... I was the kick in the groin that people needed.

OS X 10.6 was AMAZING. Really kinda dated though :(

People need to move on :P

To me, OSX hasnt really changed at all over the years, and Ive been using a OSX since the eMac and bulky white MacBook

Why Vista? It shares many features of 7, and is still in extended support, like 7.

Because it was a slow, bloated and unstable failure. Thr failure that Windows 7 tried to correct, and successfully did

*Until its last service pack-the same as Windows XP, 7 and 8.

But it's still supported by MS until 2017. I'm pretty sure there are more Vista users out there than there are Linux users ... and Chrome on Linux is still going strong.

Why is SpongeBob the main character when Patrick is the star?

But Linux is free and open, and has a large developer base. And it is free and light, so people are probably running the latest versions

EDIT: And not to mention Android is Linux underneath, so your statement is only partially correct

But Vista is also still being updated, meaning you can have the latest updated version of Vista today. It doesn't make sense not to support it.

And of course I was reffering to usage share of desktops and laptops (it's actually a lot closer than I thought to be honest: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_operating_systems#Desktop_and_laptop_computers)

You obviously never used SP2.

Fresh install vs fresh install, Vista SP2 is more stable and faster than Win7 SP1 both on my gaming PC and my 7 year old netbook. Under 10GB of disk space and RAM usage isn't high either.

Well, it's just a web browser, why wouldn't it work on older versions of Windows?

I can barely get Firefox to load on my XP install, and Chrome eats everything in site on even the newer systems, so just a bit surprising to me, is all.
