Note 5 vs Nexus 6P

Go to solution Solved by dizmo,

I'd go Note 5. I got one coming from a Nexus 5 and it's great. Get a skin or case though, as the back is a fingerprint magnet. Verus makes a really nice case for it, or you can grab one of the sweet limited edition Star Wars skins from SlickWraps.

The main draw for me was the stylus. Great addition, and I'm shocked more companies haven't tried to adopt something similar. It'd be awesome if it still had expandable storage, but it's easy enough to live without.

The Note5 is a flagship phone.  Nexus devices are mid range at best.  You're comparing products from different market segments.

And yet, those are the two devices he's choosing between.

Maybe expand a little instead of just stating something he likely already knows ;)

Also how is the 6P mid range? Sounds like you don't really know the topic.

I find it weird how people are complaining about silly things like bendgate. The nexus 6P is a flagship phone and it competes with the Note 5 in the same market area. Build quality both are very good however the Note 5 is a slippy bitch so you'll need a wrap for it or case whereas the Nexus is all but premium and it has a nice texture to its backing so no wrap required. Screen wise both are rocking 1440p displays but the Note is ever so slightly better with colour reproduction. When it comes to the OS however while Samsung has changed massively over the years nothing can really compete with a stock android experience like the 6P and although you could get a custom rom for the Note there is still a possibility you might brick it. Furthermore the Exynos CPU in the Note and the Snapdragon 810 in the 6P are very close in performance so you won't have any performance issue with either. The last thing is price the 6P could be found for $500 whereas the Note is $650 if I'm not mistaken so take that into account as well. Oh OH Oh camera wise the Samsung is better in low light conditions and has simply for features to offer like wireless charging etc. Personally I would recommend the 6P but watch MBKHD review on both devices and decide for yourself.

I honestly never saw the huge draw to stock Android. Other phones pack more features. Don't like what they did to it? Download a launcher. Problem solved.

At least the Exynos doesn't get hot ;)

You forgot the stylus, one of the main reasons to get a Note!

I love MKBHD's videos, always look forward to his phone reviews :)

the 6p, unless you don't like getting software updates and you like laggy skins.

It's not that bad. This isn't TouchWiz of a few years ago.

Alright guys I need help deciding on which phone I will get. I am stuck between a 32gb Note 5 and a 64gb Nexus 6P. Does anyone have experience with either or both? I NEED HELP!!!

Note definitely. Nexus is cool, but Note is way more powerful and high end. Also new nexus phones don't have wireless charging so they suck.

Well it is already 4/1 in favor of the Note 5. Guess I will be sticking with my guns on this one.

After using a Galaxy S5 for well over a year now I can say that Samsung hardware is nice, but the software is not good. The phone slows down sometimes and needs to be restarted every week or so. Not to mention updates are very few and far between. And I know you can flash another ROM blah blah, but I'd rather have my phone work out of the box.

Now if you have a need for the S pen features on the Note that's a different story.

Edit: I actually like the touchwiz ui quite a bit, but that doesn't fix the fact that the software is not well optimized.
