I wonder if it'd like the VG248QE and doesn't have a DVI-D, and can't run 144 Hz...

It has DVI-I, not DVI-D and you can't display 144Hz over DVI-I.

Also why 2? Unless you have an OP rig you can't run 3x Surround at 60FPS+.

And no point for a 144Hz for Desktop use.

That makes sense, since it has no display port.

I was gonna pick one of these up for 220$, but for the price it would take to get an adapter than can run it at 144 Hz it would be the same price as a VG248QE. Shame there's only 1 DVI-D port on my 980.

that is all I really need for now.  I really just wanna check it out for a month or so and then see if I want a higher quality 120hz+ or 1440p or maybe both.  for 170$ I couldn't say no

Sorry, noob question. Does this have multiple refresh rate options? Like 60, 75, 90, 120, 144 etc?

I've read stuff like that online and with my gtx 970 a lot of games I play do not reach 144 FPS. Some games are capped at 90 and I've heard it's not ideal to run higher refresh rates than the frames I'm getting. I want to buy this but that worries me.

Run your refresh rate as high as it can go period. Don't base it on fps.

I think you'd be fine.  I think its not ideal to get a 144hz monitor if you dont have the hardware to ever go over 60 with your preferred settings because you'll never be using the higher refresh rates.  I dont imagine it'd be a problem though.  Most of the time I'll probably be around the 90ish range to keep my settings as high as possible

Yeah, just worry about screen tearing and I prefer not to use Vsync. (and I can't afford Gsync)

My main game gets 90-115 FPS with my setup running stock. I'm not sure if this monitor can be set at say 120hz or if it's just simply 144hz at all times. (I know some monitors can have multiple refresh rate options)

I've googled my question and have seen so many different answers :P hard to decide on which is correct.

Sorry to side track the thread. That's kind of leaving me on the fence on buying this. Cheapest name brand 144hz monitor I've seen.

I'm hoping it'll help with screen tearing but displays are probably one of my least knowledgeable areas so I'm pretty unsure of that.

worst case scenario you can return it for a full refund to newegg within 30days.  you'll probably get hit with shipping a monitor to california but you could also try and sell it locally if you decide its not for you.  Might actually make a buck or two!

I've been trying to decide what kind of monitor I want but I can't really make up my mind so I just impulse bought one.  It'll probably meet one of the two fates I listed above before too long unless I really like it.  It'll be a (hopefully) big step up from my current monitor.   right now I'm using a 10$ 23" 1050p dell monitor from my old employer's office and pushing it at 67hz and 1440 DSR with a gtx 980.  I really wanna SLI but a good quality monitor costs as much as another 980 and waterblock

DVI-I is a DVI standard that can output both analog and digital signals. DVI-D is digital only, but otherwise they are the same. Additionally, it's using dual-link DVI which is capable of displaying 144Hz at 1080p. I own the monitor and run it through dual-link DVI and the monitor is setup to run at 144Hz. That's how it's detected and that's how I run it. Lastly, I disagree with 144Hz being useless on a desktop. Everything is much smoother, including scrolling, window movement, and cursor movement.

By the way, it has DVI-D, not DVI-I. DVI-I would be pointless.

I was having issues with 120Hz< with the DVI-I I guess? (I thought one with the "+" on the connector was DVI-D, and one with the "-" one)... It would just black screen at anything above 120Hz...

I run this in dual screen, and will run this in triple surround as soon as I build my new desk to support the three of them. There are no issues getting to 144, in fact, both of the ones I have on my desk right now are running at 145 MHz via asus extreme tweaker. I am running both monitors plugged in via DVI-D into my Strix 970 which is in SLI with my reference 970, both running at 1480 core and 8100 memory together. I'm going to grab a video tonight of Black Ops III running two player on duel screen with both at 144 fps if all goes right like it should. In black ops 2, I could run 144 fps with 3d enabled using NVidia 3d vision. Just my two cents. Had I not already been invested in the Asus, I might have picked these Acer's up as that is a fantastic price point.

Also yes, the - is the Dual Link one.

I don't recall being any '+' beside any DVI - port.

Are you talking about the additional 4 pins on the DVI-SL one?

I have had this monitor for a year, and I don't regret it one bit.  I made a review of it here, if anyone is interested:

nice, thanks for that!  sounds just like me, using crappy dell monitors for a long time now and I can't wait for those frames!

It includes dvi-d cables in the box. I just simply didn't have an extra display port cable. You still get full 144hz and my strix suppers two dvi-d outputs to make life easier
