When you get the CPU, I'd recommend taking the stock cooler (if you're using it), some 75%+ alcohol and some toilet paper and cleaning off the grey-sludge-thermal paste and replacing it with Arctic-Silver 5. But, if you didn't buy thermal paste, just leave it on there and use it like that.

2. And I was  being stupid and I was comparing the price the the i5 instead of the i3. The i3 is actually cheaper so I'm getting it. Here is my build. I'm ordering the parts now :D :D

The i3 was a stupid idea. If she's doing a lot at once, that i3 will choke. The 7850K will do better with more programs open than the i3. Plus it has a much better graphics processor, so rendering won't take as long.

 

I will debunk a myth RIGHT now. Intel is not always better. The ONLY time Intel is better is if you're ONLY a gamer and you want a cheap effective build for shooters and some other games. The threads are SLIGHTLY more powerful, but overall, AMD processors have a lot more horses pulling than that i3 will ever be able to push out. If you run a compilation test, the 7850k will outperform the i3. In every way, the A10-7850K is superior to an i3 for APU services. It has a much higher clock, it has a much better iGPU which decreases render time, and the iGPU will even aid the CPU cores in calculating.

 

Oh and, if you're a crazy bastard that needs a massive 16-36 thread rig for rendering. But your grandma isn't doing that.

The 7850k is $130. i3's are around $150. The bare minimum AMD boards are $30-50. Bare minimum Intel boards are $50-70..

 

As a side note, if you don't believe me about the multitasking, go pull up Passmark benchmarks. FX-6300 beats all i5's at a clock of about 4.1GHz- this is easily achievable...

FX-8350 to 5GHz can beat top end i7's in total calculations. They already beat i7-5960x's in gaming performance. And not just price to performance either. The FX-8350/8370 does actually outperform a i7-5960x sometimes.

Whoa why so angry?  Is it your money?  All that rage and you ignore the possibility his PC won't even boot into bios .

 

BTW, you are way off on your assessment of AMD's CPU "competitiveness" in the current market. 

 

An i5 4690K can easily keep up with the FX 8XXX in multi threaded applications... this is with only half the threading (4T vs 8T) available to it.

 

Even with a 3.0GHz clock on a 5960X, I find it really hard to believe a FX 8XXX clocked even at 5GHz would stand a chance in any game... please post your source... please.
