So after scouring all that pcpp has to offer everything you listed was going over budget by a little bit(monitor and os)but only by 100cad. this rig would be good for overclocking too

Compatibility Notes

Asus Z87-Pro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard has an onboard USB 3.0 header, but the NZXT Source 210 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case does not have front panel USB 3.0 ports.

Some Intel Z87 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Haswell Refresh CPUs.????

The NZXT Source 210 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case supports video cards up to 330mm long, but video cards over 230mm may block drive bays. Since the Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card is 280mm long, some drive bays may not be usable.

Wont this be a problem?

These builds have old motherboards paired with Haswell CPUs.  This is a risk you should not take.  Either pick the right generation mobo (H97/Z97), or contact the retailer and inquire to the bios version of any H81, B85, H87, or Z87 board you are looking at.  If the bios is not updated, you will have a "dead" PC out of the box, there will be literally no post to anything.

Another thing, one of them has a K series CPU with a B85 mobo... not the way to go at all.

I had to cheap out on the case and drop to 8GB of RAM.  I also had to leave out a 144Hz monitor.

Yup... just switch it out.  That PSU (750W) is not enough for two 390s, but it can sure run two 970s with tons of room left over.... but that motherboard does not support SLI =/.

I dumped the HDD (you can always add one later), and the CPU cooler (Stock will be fine for now, you don't need the overclock for gaming yet):

no with the motherboard you just wouldn't need to plug in any usb 3 ports from the case, then you would just need to probably update the bios if you want to make it ready for the has well refresh, and you would lose a couple drive mounts where the graphics cad would run

You don't need the water cooling.  Go for it if you like it, but that is around $90 extra over a decent air cooler.

The case is bad quality for that price.

The PSU is not good quality for that price, you can get a better unit for that money.

$50 ($1536) cheaper than that build:

wouldn't it be a better idea to just buy a i7-4790k instead of a i5-6600k because they cost almost the same (the i7 is 399 and the i5 is 334) and save on the ram, and maybe motherboard?

The i7 is a good idea since the price is near the 6600K, but only if you plan on using the boost from hyper threading that it offers.  i5's for gaming are still the sweet spot.

You won't save much money on RAM and motherboard.  There are games like Fallout where higher RAM speed is beneficial.  Do you want a more current example of a build?  Gimme a budget.

$1617, if you can get around the shipping costs ($32):

So...

CPU - I went with a Skylake i5 6500.  You don't need to overclock for gaming, but... going with Skylake offers a really good possibility that you can get a decent BCLK overclock.  You get the best of both worlds here:  Lower price and the fastest architecture that supports overclocking, just not multiplier stepping like the K-Series.

Motherboard - Had a VRM heatsink that helps when overclocking and supports Crossfire.

Storage - A single SSD (240GB).  This gets you system running and has plenty of room for a handful of games.  You can add mass storage later at any time.  It is as simple as plugging it in.

GPU - If you want to spend more than the $1300 (before taxes), then this is where you start.  I went with a R9 380 as it is a better all around card than the GTX 960.  Power consumption is not an issue, you are looking at around 50W difference, but you also get more GPU power out of it.

Power supply - Made by Superflower, a high quality unit and it is semi-modular to help with keeping your case free of loose cables.  It is powerful enough to support two R9 380s easily, and still have tons of room to overclock the CPU and GPU(s).

Monitor - 23" IPS panel, 60Hz.  ...nothing special.

Case - Cheap as hell, bit is is simple and has a good internal layout.

Fans - I added three, but you would be fine with two.  I picked low RPM fans to keep things quiet.

*Two as intakes on the front of the case

*One as a side top exhaust in case you decide to overclock the CPU an need to remove heat away from the VRMs on the motherboard faster.

CPU cooler - Big chunk of metal, 120mm fan that is quiet and $19.99... 'nuff said.

$1350 before taxes

Mouse and keyboard are better picked by you.  You know what you want more than I.  Personally I always go with a good mouse and some shitty $10 keyboard.  I might splurge on a $100 keyboard one day, but the last time I went to buy one, I ended up with a new mouse instead.  :D
