The Witcher is getting a movie adaptation, coming out in 2017

Love video games but hate their movies? Hold onto that hate, because The WItcher is getting a movie adaption and it's coming out in 2017. Who knows, maybe this video game movie will be good! Anyways, the creators of the Mummy series, The Sean Daniel Company, will be working with Polish film company Platige Films to create the movie. They haven't done anything necessarily of large scale, but Platige did make The Witcher trailer "The Trail" and the Halo 5: Guardians cinematics (which were excellent even though the game wasn't). Here's something a bit strange - the movie will not be a straight adaptation of the games or the novels. It will feature Geralt, but will instead follow the themes of the short stories The Witcher and Lesser Evil from Sapkowski's The Last Wish. This The Witcher film be the first in a series of films and will be directed by Tomasz Baginski, which earned an Oscar nomination for his animated film The Cathedral. Thania St. John is writing the script. You may know him from such as works as Grimm, Chicago Fire, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. No actors have been announced yet.

 

Fun fact as stated in the source, this isn't the first The Witcher to be made. In fact back in 2001 a Polish film called The Witcher was released. Worth a watch? Considering how shitty video game adaptations almost always are (Super Mario Bros. because you know, it's good to have Homer Simpson's voice actor as the narrator, or most Resident Evil films), I have no hope for this movie.

Totally worth a watch! Don't get me wrong, film is terrible, but it was a fun to watch only because it's witcher ;)

Wow!  Now I can bang that character in the movie!  Oh boy I don't think it can beat Resident Evil, Super Mario Brothers, or Lara Croft.  This is a big undertaking and beating the aforementioned movies will be tough and will require at least 5 C list actors.

God dammit, you're probably right.   He can't even say 3, ever noticed how is networth went past 3 Million without even noticing? Or how steam has 4 letters? Wait a second...Half life one plus half life 2 = 3...portal one plus portal 2 = 3.  3+3 = 6, Steam has four letters...it can be rearranged to Meats, and one of the most popular meats is cow meat...that's 3 letters do you see the trend now? 6 + 3 = 9...But wait do you see that?  that's right Counter Strike...that's another game and they both have 6 letters...6/6 = 1...Finally we see TF2 or The final 2 so we add Counter Strike to TF2 for 3...3 + 9 = 12...Steam has 4 letters...12/4 = 3 this means, Half Life 3 is confirmed spread the news!

It will be good as long it's been done right and atmospheric like the game is and not adapted for some custom standards..

The Witcher books have already had a movie though.  This isn't even an adaptation of the game story.  It's pretty much just another story.

The lore and stories told in The Witcher are too deep and long for a single (or even a collection) of feature films... Only a TV series could do it justice similarly to how only a TV series could do ASoIaF justice. Although GoT has been getting a bit rushed and compressed when compared to ASoIaF.

 

Also the only way they can make this good is by focusing on the core audience and make is to that it won't make sense for someone that hasn't at least read some of the books or played the games.

The first movie attempt is only worth a watch if you want a cringe fest. It really is that bad.

But I'm excited. Loved the book and i've read it twice already.
