I heard that the specs for Fallout 4 are going to take advantage of Nvidia GameWorks. My build features an R9 390X with an AMD chipset. Will my pc run the game poorly because of the amd chipset? Or will the power of the R9 390x cancel that out? Is having a gpu with an amd chipset a risk I shouldn't take? How will this affect other games, especially ones that take advantage of Nvidia GameWorks? All help is appreciated, thank you in advance.

You just won't be able to use the Nvidia game works features without taking a massive lag spike.

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

For now, we don't know if GameWorks is going to intentionally cripple AMD GPUs or not, but you're safe with that GPU anyway.

no, Gameworks is just a couple of extra things that nVidia GPU's can take advantage of, just don't turn gameworks features on and you'll be fine (or try them and see what happens).

Uhh...no?

You have a really powerful GPU. The game using NVIDIA Gameworks shouldn't severely affect that, unless it uses some CUDA specific stuff.

And besides, you should be able to play the game without issue at high framerates and resolutions with that card anyway.

Perhaps the game Is much better optimized for Nvidia and Nvidia GPU's will run the game better, like how AMD GPU's crush Nvidia In Battlefront, even weaker AMD GPU's score significantly higher than their better Nvidia counterpart (yes I know Gameworks Isnt about that). But the 390x should run the game just fine :)

You won't be able to use gameworks without a substantial performance loss but the stuff it adds isn't really that great anyways.

Considering its a bethesda game modders will probably add the same things gameworks adds and probably significantly better minus the crippling effect on amd cards.

Height Fog

Motion Blur

Filmic Tonemapping

Custom Skin and Hair Shading

Dynamic Dismemberment using Hardware Tessellation

Volumetric Lighting

Gamma Correct Physically Based Shading

3- Bokeh Depth Of Field, confirmed.

how do you like your r9 390x i'm thinking about getting that or a 970

I haven't actually finished building my pc, I still have to buy some parts. The r9 390 has a much better price with what your getting, minus a little bit of performance. What are you planning to play on your pc?

YEAH the 390 is like only 8% slower and cost quite a bit less...i would go with that or a 970.

If you are going to playing gpu intensive games, I would recommend the 390x for the extra power. If you don't feel you really need any extra power, I would go with the regular 390, as it is $100 less. You can always add a second 390, and I might add a second 390x in a year or so if I feel a need to, but you should be fine.
