why such hate on ASUS (390)

tourenious

i am planing to upgrade my GTX 760 to R9 390

im buying my parts from a physical store (i live in Bulgaria) because

the dude owning the store is very cool and his prices almost never exced

the prices on enternet and he even make me discounts at bigger buys.

I trust him and he reccomended me geting asus for a 390 but in forums

asus is mentioned only with negative

why is it and why a top company like asus would do so bad with

amd cards i just dont understand

is teh strix so realy bad?

They STRIX coolers suck for the Radeon series cards. The VRMs are not cooled properly, the fans get too loud, and the coolers aren't even custom (they just use designs from other cards.)

Radeon cards are the WORST from ASUS. Do not buy a STRIX R9 series card.

It's not a bad card but. a 760 to a 390?

If gaming in 1080p that's not that big of an upgrade I think.

That's a pretty significant upgrade. My friend's 760 (damn, I mention "friend" so often xD) lagged pretty hard in most games before he finally upgraded.

Well, ASUS is more known for their NVidia cards, where the coolers are super nice. I guess their Radeon cards are more of an afterthought, as they've never really had good coolers for them.

If you're gonna get a 390, I'd get either an MSI or (even better) a Sapphire, Sapphire's coolers are best.

Even a Powercolor cooler would be better. They aren't bad.

Because people will buy it anyways and they won't have to spend money creating another cooler.

RIP in pepperonis m8s

A 390 would be good, after that is 390X which is closer to the 980 (but much more expensive.)

They have one brand of modern cooler, and it's great. I don't know where you could buy it. If you can't find a Sapphire card, Powercolor and MSI are good.

on 1080 i dont think i need something more

if i need more maby if i get another monitor

i would get another 390

i taught of a 390x but its 1080 and the price

is a little too much for me and i plan do get 8 more ram with

the card to a total of 4x4 ram and the monet after christmas would be just perfect for 390 + 2x4 ram

Some back story, asus made some rubbish coolers for the 290/x series that performed worse/same than the stock "jet engine" 290/x coolers. The coolers on the 390/x are sufficient now. They cool the vrm and the core properly.

But the reason why I still don't recommend the card is because of the lack of active vram cooling. Although I know vram chips don't need cooling to this degree. There's not much of an excuse when everyone else is doing it.

Here's my personal list( I have more overclocking in mind)

1. Msi

2. Sapphire

3. XFX

4. PowerColor / Club3D

5. Asus

6. Gigabyte (Absolute trash. If this is your only option, buy a 970 instead)

i5 2400 | ASUS RTX 4090 TUF OC | Seasonic 1200W Prime Gold | WD Green 120gb | WD Blue 1tb | some ram | a random case

Well, the Msi card has the highest boost clock. You'll probably want that if you don't want to overclock one bit.
