680 SLI: Best configuration? (1 x blower & 1 x open air)

PandaAttack1

Hello All!

Long time lurker, first time poster here. o7

I recently purchased 2 x 680s.

Card 1: http://www.pointofview-online.com/showroom.php?shop_mode=product_detail&product_id=335

Card 2: http://www.inno3d.com/products_detail.php?refid=70

I am building everything into an Antec case I already have. Its slightly bigger than my current BitFenix Shadow case.

I will fit everything on a AsRock z87 Fatl1ty Killer motherboard.

Now my question is, which card should go into slot 1, and which card in slot 2?

I plan on setting my case up as follows:

So, should the blower go in gpu 1 and the ope air in gpu 2?

There is also place for a 120mm fan on the side panel. I am am planning on pushing air in through there, so that the psu can get some cold air.

Any thoughts or ideas?

I think I would have the blower style card on the bottom, as long as your CPU temps are going to be fine.

Sig under construction.

blower bottom, blower ones don't cool that well compared to open cards.

Definitely put the blower style card on the top since it's less affected by restricted air access. Then bu the open-air card on the bottom

This. Exactly this. Linus recently did a video on this, too.

It's not so much the air restriction that increases the top cards temperature, it's that it's pulling hot air off the bottom card. If I disable crossfire my top card runs at normal temperature, enabling crossfire raises the temperature 10c or more. I would put the blower on the bottom.

I should edit that if one card has a back plate it should go on the bottom to protect the top card better from the heat it puts out.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
