R9 390 vs. GTX 970 for ArmA 3, GTA V, etc.?

Go to solution Solved by iM8Pizza,

What's about the Thermaltake Toughpower 750W Gold or the EVGA SuperNova 650 GS?

the Toughpower is the one that I own, and I have a Sapphire Nitro Tri-X R9-390, so yeah.. it's safe

Hey Guys

Which GPU should I buy? Gigabyte Radeon R9 390 G1 Gaming/Sapphire R9 390 Nitro Tri-X OC or Gainward GeForce GTX 970 Phantom?

I want to play ArmA 3 and 2, DayZ SA, GTA V, Rust, Minecraft, etc.

I'm want to play at 1080p and more or less at max settings.

Thanks in advance

the 390 > 970. And both of the two brands you mentioned are great.

But make sure you have at least a 600w psu

In almost all cases the 390 will outperform the 970 at 1080p. At 1440p and above the 390 is a winner hands down.

yes offcourse

390 also has 8GB of vram, which will last you much longer than the 970

yes and no if you plan on ocing heavily no or crossfire no probably not but if you dont already have this psu just bump to an EVGA or Seasonic 700watt or greater to be safe

<p>Wish I could have this already!! : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qTLRjX

I own both a 390 and 970 its a very tough one to answer.Games like arma and dayz will play better on 970 also rust.at 1080p id still buy the 970 at 1440p id buy the 390

I love both the 390 and the 970 but for games like GTA 5 that love v-ram like nothing else, I would have to go for the 390 for that 8GB of v-ram.

If you're buying a platform, get the 6700K. It's significantly better. And with a 6700K the CPU overhead won't be a big deal so the 390 is the better deal probably.

Stick with an older platform that is not cheaper? How is that even considered helpful. So what, you're also going with the broadly carried narrative how CPU's are not relevant? Yeah, just get a 2500K right?

one site doesnt prove its worth it.You can pick up devils/haswell for much cheaper lol.

If a 6600k is $320 and an i5 2500k is $100 what would you buy?

I listed two sites. And no Skylake isn't more expensive than Haswell. Stop repeating misinformed doctrines.

skylake is more expensive the haswell and so is DDR4 and a Motherboard for said CPU and DDR4 I'd just go with the Haswell
