iMac 20inch, possible for upgrading?

Hey!

I'm just looking for a project the next Holliday, and my eye has felt on maybe upgrading an 20inch iMac, and maybe put like a Core i5 in, and a R9 nana or something, would that actually be possible in that space?

The specs at this moment are:

Core 2duo (2.0 Ghz)

2gb ddr2

250gb hdd

20insh screen

Os: Yosemite 10.11

Thanks!

Well, I guess If you can get It open you can, but then theres venting the heat which Is why macs use carefully selected components as there arent alot of venting options on a Mac...

Apple's AIOs are unupgradable because you may put parts into it that aren't compatible with OSX.

Oh, and so you'll buy the new one for $2000 when you want any kind of upgrade.

IMO, buy a new PC.

I used to be quite active here.

Not without heavy modding.

-How would you orientate the mobo and graphics so the I/O is accessible

-How would you connect the inbuilt display (I very much doubt it is displayport or something non-propriety)

-probably couldn't reuse the power supply because it also wont be standard, so where would you fit one.

Just a few problems I thought of the top of my head.

Could try but idk if it is possible imo

It voids the warranty. Also, super hard to put back together. Most parts cannot be upgraded whatsoever (CPU, GPU, older ones can't upgrade RAM)

rephrase?

the warranty is already gone on that one ;)

Buy a new PC, don't waste your money on a new iMac.

A bigger iMac or make the iMac bigger?

Even with a 27" iMac you would have the same issues.

However, if you build a massive case behind the iMac (and make it look like a CRT) then you wouldn't have a problem fitting anything you'd like lol

I mean.. You could just build a $600 PC instead of buying an outdated Mac.

Upgrading a iMac is not possible. The only things you can upgrade is ram and possible the storage. Rest are mobile parts and their soldered to the motherboard itself.  And your iMac is a Core 2 Duo. Core i5 is a totally different platform.

Intel Xeon E5 1650 v3 @ 3.5GHz 6C:12T / CM212 Evo / Asus X99 Deluxe / 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 3000 Trident-Z / Samsung 850 Pro 256GB / Intel 335 240GB / WD Red 2 & 3TB / Antec 850w / RTX 2070 / Win10 Pro x64

HP Envy X360 15: Intel Core i5 8250U @ 1.6GHz 4C:8T / 8GB DDR4 / Intel UHD620 + Nvidia GeForce MX150 4GB / Intel 120GB SSD / Win10 Pro x64

HP Envy x360 BP series Intel 8th gen

AMD ThreadRipper 2!

5820K & 6800K 3-way SLI mobo support list
