CX600M for non overclocking build

NeatSquidYT

Hi,
So I will be getting a Xeon for Christmas (1231 V3). Thing is, not sure whether to upgrade PSU at the same time. I don't want to get just PC parts for Christmas though, that'd be boring. Would my CX600M be fine with my build, if I didn't OC the 970, or would I be able to?

yeah that would be fine, although ti never hurts to upgrade your PSU lol

Want a good game to play?  Check out Shadowrun: http://store.steampowered.com/app/300550/ (runs on literally any hardware)

well.. i'm not gonna argue on the build quality of CX, but if corsair says its for grandma's cat video PC, are you gonna hook it up to a 970?

Corsair does not say that. its rated for 600w it will provide 600w.

If you are trying to teach with that level of critical thinking its just the blind leading the blind.

The 600M is fine.

It's by far not as terrible as the normal CX line.

i'm not commenting on your intelligence, i'm making you use your intelligence to use a product for what its creator intended it to be for, or buying a different product.

will you pull agricultural equipment with a bugatti veyron?

quoting corsair's website here: "basic system builds"

i'm not sure what you are rocking, but i wouldnt call a quad core cpu and a 970 basic.

Sodding hell - a simple daughterboard for the cables does not make it good....

it's rated for 600W @ 30*C - at 40*C it outputs 300-450W max.

If you are not going to overclock, you will see a power draw of under 300wDC. The CX600M will be able to handle that.

I know what the website says, it does not say anything about the use of the computer it is installed in. It is intended as a low cost power supply series. 600w is 600w.

600W is 400W when over 30*C aka on a warm day.

no. its rated for indefinitely long 600w continuous draw at 30c that doesn't mean it cant provide 600w at over 30c.

That's exactly what it means. It can't even pass reviewer tests during hot testing as as soon as they draw 400-450W from it it shuts down or fries itself.

no. just no. 600w is an actual real world observable value. 600w is never 400w

Okay, then why is it rated @ 30*C? If it can output 600W continuously why not rate it at 35*C? or 40*C? or 100*C? Answer? because it cannot.

it can output 600w continuously you moron. at 30c. Why not rate power supplies at 1000c because thats stupid.

30c is what they measured it at because thats a reasonable expectation of what it will experience in the real world.

I said that it can output 600w at over 30c non-continuously.

learn to read.

Why is my PSU rated it at 50+*C then? Why no rate any PSU at standard ambient of 22*C? And stop insulting others just because they don't blindly agree to false information.

What false information?

and they rated your PSU at 50 because they felt like it. its not better or worse because of it. You just need to understand what the rating means, which you clearly don't.

@STRMfrmXMN @Aniallation @quan289 - please help me out here - I'm having a hard time believing the temperature rating of a PSU is there just to look pretty on a box...
