Hello Everyone!

Just wanted to get some thoughts on this internal debate I'm having right now:

Which monitor would you recommend for a productivity/gaming workload?

a 38" 3840x1600p 175hz GSYNC IPS monitor, or a 39" 3440x1440p 240hz AMD Freesync OLED monitor?

price from where I am from is generally around the same, and I was originally gonna go with the first one already, but I recently found out about the second one and I am interested in the OLED and fast refresh rate panel, but generally just worried about the lower PPI and burn-in.

Additionally, will I notice the difference between the 175hz and 240 hz panels?

Thanks

What specific monitors are these? Both have pretty low pixel densities in my option.

I'd go OLED. Contrast is much better and the blacks are really black. Tats a pretty small resoltion drop. If you want more pixels I'd get those 42 in 4k TVs like the lg c3. Good amount more pixel density.

That depends on both the game and yourself. I can barely notice a difference between 60 Hz and 120 Hz, if I pay attention to it, while playing a fast paced game like Quake II. If I didn't know what I'd selected, I likely wouldn't notice at all. Going from 120 Hz to 165 Hz, I don't see a difference, nor do I notice a difference in terms of input lag.

Honestly a tough call for me, especially when I don't use monitors for work.

I'm guessing the 38 inch monitor you're looking is LG 38GL950. It should be a better fit for both work and gaming if you're too afraid of burn-in. It has more pixel area but man... the price is too outdated. Curious, are you considering 4K 32 inch monitors as well?

About 175Hz vs 240HZ comparison, you should also consider OLED vs IPS too. If it's 175Hz IPS vs 240Hz IPS, then it's not much improvement. But given these two monitors are 175Hz IPS and 240Hz OLED, then maybe it's more moderate improvement, as I personally think 120Hz OLED looks similar as 175Hz IPS.

This has probably less to do with the actual refresh rate and is all about OLED's way superior pixel response time, which should result in less ghosting.
