Hello,

This is my first time on the forum and was hoping this was the right place to ask. This years Computex has definitely caught my attention. After seeing AMD’s new performance and its promise for longevity, I was quite intrigued. Ever since then, I’ve been thinking about upgrading when they come out, and wanted to hear thoughts. I am currently running an intel 10700k with a 3060 and 16 gb of 3200 ram. I also use a widescreen 1440p 200 hz monitor that I haven’t been able to take full advantage of. Regarding my gpu, I don’t wanna upgrade to 40 series as the jump for price would not be worthwhile, so I’ll definitely wait and for my ram, I want to wait till I upgrade my cpu and thus my mobo. My current mobo only handles up to 3200 mhz and was interested in possible upgrading to ddr5. I guess my real question is if it’s too early to upgrade my cpu and mobo, would the difference in performance be worth it? For reference I play rpgs like persona 3 reload and cyberpunk as well as being an upcoming high school senior hoping to major in cs (so I can work for the money to upgrade, but am not sure if it is worth it).

I also have an intel Mac (the last gen of intel) and wasn’t sure if I should focus on upgrading this before I upgrade my PC. There’s no real problem with the mac besides it being too slow, but also I’ve heard how great m series mac’s are.

That 3060 is what limits your performance on 1440p high refresh, the CPU just makes the frame variance higher than with a modern CPU.

Unless you got applications/games that you cannot run on your PC, I'd say that your system is still good for at least a few years.

I agree that the 3060 is the weak link in your system but it is fairly easy to upgrade the GPU without breaking the bank. The 30 series Nvidia cards are a bit cheaper since the 40 series are out but I also recommend checking on the AMD side. You can easily purchase an RX 7700xt for less than an Nvidia 3070. Also, a cheaper option is to purchase an RX 6750XT that you can probably get for next to nothing in exchange for your 3060.

Hope that helps.
