Hello, how are you?

I am posting this on behalf of a friend.

He is trying to piece together a build for gaming.

Money as to be well spent.

With this in mind, he is debating between an AMD 8350 for 145 euros.

Or an Intel i5 6600k for 235.

The boards are about the same price.

The memory is 70 for 8gigs of DDR4 for the i5 and 45 for 8gigs DDR3 for the amd.

With this in mind.

What is the better option?

The gpu will probably be a 290 for the excellent price point it is currently.

What is your input?

Cheers and thanks

AMD is done. Get a non-K i5 and that will smash any FX on the same budget.

Intel, because the FX isn't viable money wise anymore. You will get much more for your money with the i5 6600k.

Pretty much this, except for the non k version, get an unlocked i5 and clock that bad boy. AMD needs to bring out Zen asap but I doubt they will do anytime soon.

unlocked i5 is more expensive, but it's no contest.

Intel if it's just for gaming...

no. AMD is done. It can't compete with skylake on any task. On haswell it could maaaaaaaybe do rendering better, but it's not haswell anymore. Skylake IPC is even further ahead.

I'd rather own something I can squeeze every drop of performance out of within the silicone lottery, especially when I'm paying for the premium of a fast cpu.

If I had a fast car, best believe its getting engine work done.

From all the tests I've seen they pretty much sat equal. Haswell and Skylake.

Honestly, this depends????

that's idiotic. a locked i5 would smash 8320e to bits in every task. Not to mention it will be cheaper because you can't run FX on stock cooler and cheap ass mobos.

Intel / nVidia every time. I've tried the AMD Route and keep going back to the green team

Why?

Now's the best time to jump to team red from team green.

Simply down to having a better experiance with the build with regards to gaming and stability with team green. I don't overclock much and I've found that I get better results with team green. The only exception being an annoying CPU discrepancy I posted about in my mini pc

Haswell to Skylake (DDR3): Average ~5.7% Up.

Not to mention Skylake is supposed to OC better, not sure about that because I haven't read up. But 5.7% more on FX IPC which was already low as fuck is massive.

I've never really had good luck with Nvidia, sadly.

So you agree with me on getting an unlocked i5 6600k? Sweet! Can tune up the FX but it costs too much which I said in my post.

I love my 970, I have a custom bios for it I need to tweak to see how far I can push it to 1600mhz core and 8000mhz ram.

I agree that i5 6600K is much better than FX. But locked is already better and it clearly is better value if money is the limiting factor. 4460 was the last gen value king. Idk which skylake locked chip has the best price now.
