Simply down to having a better experiance with the build with regards to gaming and stability with team green. I don't overclock much and I've found that I get better results with team green. The only exception being an annoying CPU discrepancy I posted about in my mini pc

Not really true, drivers there's basically no difference they're both equally bad and varies from person to person, other than that I don't what you mean by stability and atm until Pascal only Nvidia card worth buying is 980Ti imo

I agree that i5 6600K is much better than FX. But locked is already better and it clearly is better value if money is the limiting factor. 4460 was the last gen value king. Idk which skylake locked chip has the best price now.

And I said, given the choice, as you're already paying the fucking premium, get the unlocked one and push it as some people have been hitting 5ghz.... it's a no brainer. If i'm throwing a load of cash at building a gaming rig, I want the best of the best, so Z170 board and unlocked chip to push the hell out of it. Btw, I swear all the time, even when I'm calm. It's a culture thing here in the north of England before you start crying.

you aren't paying any premium. i5 locked + cheaper motherboard and stock cooler is cheaper than FX and more performance.

You people who earn too much don't understand how much money that 100 euro you save means to people in countries that don't have 2000 euro minimum wages.

I get monthly allowance of 170 euro and it's more than enough, minimum salary is 330eur.

There IS A THING called VALUE. Locked i5 gives you more for your money.

Unlocked i5 is ENTHUSIAST chip, which means it's worse value to squeeze out the last couple % of power.

Twice the cash for 1 to 5 fps? I would go with AMD in a heartbeat.

Unless it's an APU build or you have loads of watercooling, the i5 6600k is the best choice, and I'm saying that as an FX8350 owner.

Depends where you're from agreed, but its like a £40 difference here in the UK, you'd have to be on a strict budget or uneducated to get a locked rig.

Yeah I was saying from a general standpoint I know personal experience varies person to person

Twice the cash for 1 to 5 fps? I would go with AMD in a heartbeat.

Intel is just better value I really don't see the point in buying CPUs from a dead 2012 socket that's way behind in IPC performance

It could be a lot more than 1-5fps depending on the game if it's CPU bound

Also he could easily make a locked Haswell build which would give better performance and have a negligible price difference

It doesn't matter. Nice argument. It doesn't matter to you since you don't think the price difference is not large.

It's large though and the VALUE for of a locked platform is SO MUCH BETTER. You get 95% of the performance for 60-70% of the price.

Or you could put that 100-150 euro you save towards a more powerful graphics card and actually get MORE performance for the same amount of money.

Unlocked chips only make sense when you have no budget or it's large enough to fit in a top tier graphics card anyway.

What about 100-150 eur you could put towards gpu? Most games are limited by GPU. CPU really makes no difference for gaming when you have an i5 already.

what do you meaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan. Value wise K is worse and there is no argument against it. All you are saying is that you would spend more. But what if your budget is a 1000 and no more. You would rather have K cpu and something like r9 380 instead of locked and r9 390?

That's exactly what I mean. You don't look at value whatsoever, just spend whatever and ignore the prices, because you have too much money to care.

Please look at my sig. That's a PC I built for atleast 3-4 years to not even touch, because I don't have money to upgrade a graphics card because I would like to. I just don't. Many people don't. Many people should buy value components, not unlocked enthusiast overpriced ones.

Good for you, look at my build, it started off the same way back in 2012.

No you shouldn't buy value components, such as motherboards, PSUs, etc, because they fail and have a high failure rate. It isn't my fault your economy is poor that you can't spend a little extra on an unlocked cpu. OP hasn't said he can't afford one so your argument with me over your own internal turmoil is pointless.

Definitely intel but there is no need to go for an unlocked i5. A locked stock i5 will do very similarly in most games than a an unlocked overclocked i5. Obviously, going for a locke done will mean some savings on the cpu purchase
