Xbox boss wants Xbox 360 games to work on the PC

werto165
Recently, Microsoft revealed that the company is bringing the ability to play Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One. Surprisingly enough, the company isn’t stopping there. Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox wants the ability to play Xbox 360 on the PC. In an interview with Gizmodo Brazil, Phil stated:

“[Xbox games on Xbox One is] something I want to do, but it is a matter of priority. I would love to have the ability to play Xbox 360 on PC at some point too, so we have different things we have to think about when we plan these things. But it would be great to have support for original Xbox games. So yes, I want it, but we have many other things we want to do as well.”

Yes there is xenia in the works but I can see xbox themselves getting x360 in a better working state a lot faster, if they've been able to do  on the xbox one which is x86 it should be too hard to transfer that to the PC. (I'm no software engineer so I have no clue..)

I hope their definition of Xbox 360 on PC isn't streaming it to your computer from the console like last time..

It's their competition to playstation now? Could be I don't see why they would put that much effort toward emulation if they weren't selling software at some point.

Well, if they're getting them on the Xbone then it can't be that hard to port the emulator to the PC..?

We don't know how they are doing it.  Is the 360 hardware duplicated into the One?  is it an emulator?  Is it just using the 360 game disc to prove you own it and then streams the game from a nvidia grid-like service?  Are they going to actually recompile al the 360 games for the One?

I wonder because I assume the on PC strategy will be similar if not the same

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

I think that the xbox one downloads the game and just recompiles it, it doesn't stream it.

Most of us want this Phil, but until you do make this it will be just lame hype. Saying "but it is a matter of priority" isn't reassuring either, considering the PC has always been the red headed step child in they eyes of Microsoft(GFWL, nuff said).

Yup, if it's this then I don't care. Streaming Xbox 360 on PC is NOT playing it on PC, so if Spencer wants to use that terminology then he better be using it right.

Him saying;

I would love to have the ability to play Xbox 360 on PC at some point too

says to me that he wants streaming to PC, not playing on PC.

Which my reponse to him is: Fuck off.

Are there really that many games, except Halo and Red Dead and maybe Gears of War, that people want to play that bad on PC that they can't already play?

I think it's just those 3 actually :)

err I don't think we really want games from a ten year old console LOL.

Apart from very select stuff like Halo etc..

It feels like Microsoft is in a dilemma.

On one hand they want to show PC gamers that they care....

On the other hand they would prefer to focus their efforts on the Xbone where they can fully control the monetization without having to compete with Steam, Origin, GOG etc...
