So I was talking to my dad and I knew he had done some cool tech stuff in the past but he is a straight up G! Like legit. He used to work at Cray in the hay day then SGI and now some other place. When he worked at Cray he was in charge of testing all nodes and blades in every server and super computer so he would be able to use 9,000+ CPUs at his will. So what better thing to do when not using them then Seti. Basically folding and Boinc before they existed. While most high end work stations would get about 8 WU per night (only can run at night because they are used during the day). My dads work station AKA a Cray super computer would get about 35,000W WU a night and he was number 1 on the leader boards of the world for a very long time. Sun eventually got mad and made their own compiler to use but Cray beat them and still came out first. I just love hearing all these stories my dad tells me as it reflects who I am. Anyone else have a cool dad story?

My Dad is pretty average. Well, not really. He's never home, and we don't have any form of a relationship. Not my fault because I've tried many times, he just doesn't really care.

That's why if I ever become a Father I'll try and be the best Dad possible.

I cant name all of the fun things Ive ever done with my dad, its endless. Needless to say he's my best friend in the entire world, wouldnt want any other dad. It makes me smile because though no one else can have my dad, everyone has their own dad that they have an equally great relationship with. Idk what Id do without my dad, truly an awesome man.

Hmm, my dad used to be a drummer in an anarcho-punk band. Listning to their demo; they weren't that bad.

But according to him playing music was mostly an excuse to drink, fuck, fight and do drugs. 

The best story I have is probably the time he almost got into a fight with the parents of someone who bullied my sister.

 

Now he works as a consultant for various companies and governments. He helps them with planning out how to rollout fibre cables.

My dad is a retired boiler tech from the navy, and now does the same job just for a private company.

 

 

Its funny anytime we go somewhere he always finds people to talk to that are either former navy, we live in a military town, or from New York, he's from Long Island.

 

As far as tech goes he isn't the brightest bulb, but mechanical stuff he is pretty decent.

No, but seriously, I have just about the coolest Dad in the world. He's a clock repairman now, but he used to work for a company called TrueVision and helped to design some graphics boards. They're really old, but he still has some of them around and even showed me the one he worked on. The main chip he focused on had something to do with a monitor's refresh rate. I need to take some pictures when I'm home for fall break and show the forum...Anyway, he's really kind and gentle, he's always there when you need him, and he's really smart, too. And when I started to show a great interest in computers, it was him who approached me and suggested that we build one together, not me. Of course I said yes, but, just, wow.

 

Unfortunately, as far as Dads go for someone my age(19), he's pretty old. He turned 60 earlier this year. 

Why is the God of Hyperdeath SO...DARN...CUTE!?

 

Also, if anyone has their mind corrupted by an anthropomorphic black latex bat, please let me know. I would like to join you.
