Remember that CX PSU video?

I'll say this, all CX PSU except the latest revisions are shit. Their main problem however is still the bloody price-they are too expensive for what is essentially just your run of the mill PSU designed for basic use.

Edit: That being said, I paid more for my VS 650 than my CX 850M......local stores really have their pricing all over the place.

I kind of agree with what you said, however you should still buy based on the merits of the product not the company.

well, unlike most people, i am totally fine with using CF...

I got the PSU, Mobo and CPU to handle it.... so it doesnt matter if i have to buy two GPUs to get better performance...

I do not support asshattery if i can avoid it....

Crossfire is actually a rather large pro when it comes to AMD's graphics cards-the scaling is insane when compared to SLI as AMD thought ahead and removed the brdige. Performance at higher resolutions is another area where AMD's graphics cards excel as AMD decided to go for 4K capable graphics cards as soon as 4K looked like it was going to be a 'thing'. BTW, AMD is just as bad for asshattery as Nvida-never trust either of them.

I was just referencing that video where at the end the message is what you were saying - review and buy the product, not the brand

however sometimes you just have to stick to a brand. Not because it is the best, but because sometimes, consistency is more worth it then random performance increases.

i would never deviate and buy a Asus or Gigabyte AMD GPU... because i hear there is a lot of shit with them. Reviewers does not say the same. Reviewers show the cards being solid products. But over time, these two brands has shown that they are inferior to the competition.

It is the same with PSUs, i will never buy cooler master PSUs. Not because they are terrible, they arent. But because corsairs higher end (RM, HX, AX) is consistently good and has never let me or any of my friends down.

hell, to this day, even the two builds ive had with CX PSUs have worked fine, even under heavy load.

AMD is asshats in the sense that they promise you gold during their "hype train" period and usually cannot deliver.

On the flip side, if you accept that anything they say should be taken with a dump truck full of salt, then they are ok. They overestimate themselves too much, that is their consistently greatest flaw.

Other then that, yes they have some shoddy practices, but atleast they arent directly nerfing older gen hardware with drivers purely to make their new linup look good (they just make them less power efficient, in the case of the 200 vs 300 series)....

AMDs asshattery, while blatantly there, is more transparent. When AMD wants to throw shit in your face, they give you a heads up first...

Nvidias practice is to pack it in gold wrapping and present it as your next best feature..It reeks, but all the weak minded sheep gobble it up regardless.

Nvidia is like Apple, well a infant version of apple (they need to do more patent trolling to be as bad as apple).... and i fucking hate apple from the core of my being.

Of course we should, we all want some diversity and some different options to choose from when building a PC. AMD makes great GPU's and their new Zen line is in the works and is gonna rock :P

People fear that if they don't help AMD, nvidia and intel will take over and then slack off, but if companies know we will just help whoever is falling behind and not always buy the best product, that would have the same effect - why would anyone try hard if they know they can just act like they're in trouble and get sympathy sales?

That nerfing was never proved, and in DirectX 9 my GTX 650ti is still able to perform surprisingly close to my GTX 970-their attempt to nerf laptops by blocking overclocking however is BS. I've got a friend who overclocked their GTX 860M past the performance of a GTX 870M-without thermal throttling (he had all sliders maxed out in MSI afterburner). And I'll say this, if the 300 series rebadge had been ready at the same time as the 900 series I'd have a 390X as there are just a tad more benefits over a GTX 970 (namely the vRAM and memory bandwidth, alongside Crossfire of course). Straight up things would be different if AMD was even trying to compete.

uhm... 390X is the 399-449 USD GPU

390 is the 300 USD GPU

The nerf was proven, but they reverted it within a week or two. So people sort of just let it slide...

But releasing a WHQL driver that drops the FPS of the previous generation below what they had before (one thing is increasing that of the new gen. But the 5,6,700 series DROPPED by 5-10 FPS).

That's what I'm actually going to be doing-once I sell it it will come down to whether an XFX R9 390/390X is cheaper than a Sapphire card-all of the other cards seem like shit.

(In the interim between selling it and buying a 390/390X, I'll be using my GTX 650Ti OC 2GB, which is perfect for gaming at 1024x768 60-85FPS on my old LCD monitor/TV (which was designed to compete with CRT so it has colour that's pretty damn close in quality))

How is that possible?  On sale somewhere?  I know in Canadian dollars the 390X is $500 to $600 give or take, and the 970 is $400 to $450 depending where you look

When is Water better than air then?

Data Centers or people who are prepared to have to buy another system if it leaks.

I got an air leak in my system once and I just wiped it up with a paper towel. You could also just use a compressor and blow out the air as long as you let it dry 24 hrs.

Well, i know you got a lot of hardware... pile it up, sell a lot of it, get a Sapphire R9 390X TRI-X (OC if you can find it... factory OC/binning FTW)

Second most important upgrade... Kingston Predator PCIe SSD....

Yeah, i am drooling over one of those (open box version availble where i live for 30 bucks less then normal.... i still get full warranty even if open box)...

But, R9 Fury X2 is on my "must have list" already... just waiting to see how crazy expensive it will be...

If it is more expensive then 2x Sapphire R9 Fury Tri-X then ill do dual TRI-X Furys.....

because really.... it will be good anyway....

But, but, it's not just better perf/$... it's literally more powerful and less expensive... by a lot... in both aspects...

This is what I am going to sell:

  • i5 4440
  • Asus H87M Pro with the latest Bios
  • GTX 970 G1 Gaming with AS5 as the TIM
  • Abit VP6 (latest Bios) with 2x Pentium III EB1000 and 4x512MB matched and unknown SDRAM (from the same batch, serial numbers within 20 and 2 are sequential) that can run at 150MHz

The reason I'm selling the VP6 is that my P5Q Deluxe replaced it-and I'm not selling my P5Q Turbo on Ebay as its got some issues that I didn't pick up until the return period was up (it works but 1 RAM slot has a dead clip-which is negated by how tightly sticks fit.

Edit: I've got a Corsair Force LS 60GB and OCZ ARC 100 240GB-I'm fine for SSD.

Don't forget about those new Samsung 950 Pro M.2 SSD's coming out. They will be even cheaper, and perform even faster than those Kingston drives. http://www.anandtech.com/show/9650/samsung-announces-950-pro-ssd-their-first-consumer-vnand-nvme-ssd

But, but, it's not just better perf/$... it's literally more powerful and less expensive... by a lot... in both aspects...

(the 390X you found, apparently... so we're clear)

I paid just under $700 for my GTX 970. And AMD fucked up their rebadge launch date by a lot.

That's really messed up.  I feel like there is profit to be made here somehow, leveraging this pricing difference...

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

not sure they will be cheaper here in Norway (things get expensive here. fast.... we're the EUs answer to australia and canada... just that instead of a few things getting expensive. everything is)

https://www.komplett.no/product/850217/datautstyr/skjermkort/pci-express/sapphire-radeon-tri-x-r9-fury-4gb-hbm

Fury (normal) costs around 675 USD here....

my R9 295x2 cost me about the same as that Fury does... however i bought my R9 295x2 when the NOK to USD convertion was better so it was around 575 USD back then D:

BUT, if it IS cheaper... my upgrade pattern will be

1 - Fury X2/dual Fury TRI-X

2 - 950pro NVME/Predator PCIe SSD

3 - EK predator (240 + 360) with waterblocks for GPUs too

@

would you wanna buy a R9 295x2?

Never put my name in the same post as an R9 295X2.

1. AIO-don't have the room with my Seidon 120V installed

2. Power consumption

3. Do you want my Corsair CX850M to go up in flames?

4. VRM run far too hot

5. Never going to buy a dual GPU card as if 1 GPU fails the card is fucked
