Skyrim question

lovingGamer

Hi everyone just a quick question, is skyrim CPU bound game?

I have modded skyrim with around 30 mods, and sometimes i get FPS drops.. Like every 15 minutes...

I have I3 4150

Naked Skyrim is CPU-bound only because it isn't very demanding of your GPU. But it's also poorly threaded as it uses a pretty old engine, so an i3-4150 should run it quite well.

The mods are likely the issue, especially if you're using a lot of texture/geometry mods. They can make the game very GPU-bound.

nonon just for a test i disabled all texture/geometry mods and problem was still there...

Depends on what your mods are.

Usually gpu bound though. I have a 4690k and an r9 390 and get below 20fps at times.

You know what's easier than buying and building a brand new PC? Petty larceny!
If you're worried about getting caught, here's a trick: Only steal one part at a time. Plenty of people will call the cops because somebody stole their computer -- nobody calls the cops because they're "pretty sure the dirty-bathrobe guy from next door jacked my heat sink."

heat?

^this

I had the same problem even though I've got a relatively powerful rig (4690k and a GTX 970) and I was having some occasional FPS problems, decided to clean my rig out (especially the clogged air filter) and whaddya know, the problem went away.

Cleaning my old Athlon II reduced temps from 62*C to 50*C. Worked for me as well :)

Volumetric fog, max render distance, improved distant objects, larger amounts of grass than normal, and 2k texture packs. My gpu loves me. :P

short descriptions of settings/mods that I have.

The mods that I was describing are:

-Climates of Tammiel/supreme storms/supreme and Volumetric fog

-skyrim distance overhaul

-Skyrim flora overhaul

-Tamriel reloaded (the 2k texture versions)

(the render distance is just in the regular settings)

Now when I go anywhere that has a lot of trees/grass and it's foggy, my framerate tanks. Looks good though lol
