How is this CPU for gaming? My friend has one and is considering changing to a 4790k. Would that even be worth it?

Yeah is still a good CPU if you can get it for about 200$-275$

the 4790k is not much better than the 3770k

definitely not worth the $600 for a new CPU+motherboard

Not really no.

 

Especially if your friend is comfortable with overclocking.

 

Even 3770k to 6700k is kinda a stretch imho and the only reason to do that is improved feature set.

Yeah If you have an i7 you keep that i7 until the performance you see wanes with respect to current tech, currently your cpu is fine.

like said above, the extra cost to gain is not in your/friend favor.

unless looking for m.2 or more USB 3.0, not a bargain performance expenditure.

sure there is a bit of a performance bump, but nothing to throw the haswell into

the bin about.

Well... with my overclock I get the same score on cinebench as a stock 4790k, so I didn't upgrade. It has more than handled everything I can throw at it without bottlenecking my 2 970s.
