I'd say give it a go. The processor won't be outdated and still very powerful for years.

Doesn't really matter seeing as the 5960X has more PCIe lanes than any other platform has just by itself. There's no real reason to wait for Skylake-E unless they have a 10-core processor.

Take the 5960X and the board, I'd say.

Hey guys i have a dilemma lolll my girlfriend is going to get me the 5960x and a board for my birthday next week, (Best girlfriend ever LOLLLL)

But i will feel stupid  if they come out with skylake-E processors soon or is that a long time off?

If you feel stupid when another CPU comes into the market and you have a 5960X, you are stupid. 

Ok, that was a bit rough. What i mean is, you are getting Intel's first octocore, skylake-E highest end CPU will be a slightly better octocore, and core count is usually the main reason people change from an enthusiast intel cpu to a newer one. So, enjoy it dude, and give your gf a hug from me.

I doubt we will see any Enthusiast Skylakes untill late 2016. And by then, I doubt the performance jump will be so much from the 5960X. Expect lower power consumption and a smaller form factor, with some performance boost. Seriously though, the 5960X is a beast, way ahead of the pack, it should be up there with the top prosumer CPUs for few years.
