AMD Server CPUs

Go to solution Solved by harrynowl,

It's an ARM RISC platform so it's for low power cluster deployments, good for cheap datacentre computing.

so i wanted to ask what the fourm thinks of amd's Operton A-Series http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/server/opteron-a-series

Is it worth it?

(for servers that need it, not me :P)

OFF TOPIC: I suggest every poll from now on to have "**CK EA" option instead of "Other"

If I remember correctly most of the server use Xeons so I guess they are not that popular.

If I'm not wrong the TITAN uses AMD Opteron

"Titan employs AMD Opteron CPUs in conjunction with Nvidia Tesla GPUs to improve energy efficiency while providing an order of magnitude increase in computational power over Jaguar". So yes it does

I really can't say too much since I've never used them, but at a first look I see that they are using an ARM architecture, so on any server that does anything beyond simple file hosting a RISC could backfire badly, but again, I really can't judge I don't have enough informations.

Fanboy much...

(Get of this forum...)

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

Why you shouldn't trust Gpu or Cpu boss Click on this I dare you!

Low power HTPC for gaming. Boom roasted. Do not Fanboy. AMD has uses but right now they are not prevalent or recommended outside of cheap workstations (very cheap workstations). Regardless of their usefulness (or uselessness) you should not make blanket statements that have nothing to do with the topic at hand. You also shouldn't curse at people (@babadoctor). Stop.
