Hi all , I was just wondering, how long I would be able to get away with running a custom loop with distilled water without a kill coil for until algae and what not starts to be an apparent issue. The loop isn't set up so don't panic yet, it's just I've got everything ready but cannot source a kill coil and wanted to know If I could set the loop up, and continue the search for one near by, keeping in mid this wouldn't probably take more than a week.

Cheers,

I'm no expert ( I always say this) but depending on environment, I'd say about two weeks before wanting to biocide.

a week is fine

when you add a kill coil it will kill anything that started growing

there wont be enough buildup of organic matter after a week to clog anything

You'll be fine running it a week and then adding the silver coil but note if you have any nickel in your loop do not use silver kill coils. They are borderline dis-similar metals and can cause galvanic corrosion in "harsh environments" making the nickeling plating flake off.
