AGP Expansion Slot and Legacy Video Cards? HELP!

TechFnatic
Go to solution Solved by SkilledRebuilds,

Can someone please explain what a legacy video card is? I've been reading up on AGP expansion slots and it mentions only people compatible with legacy video cards. I've googled and I can't find anything useful, thanks!

Legacy usually just means old and not fitting a common standard (currently PCIE)

Legacy, usually comes from the title of the drivers..

Legacy drivers are needed for my 2600XT from AMD, cos its not supported in their modern driver packages, but their legacy (older) ones.

Can someone please explain what a legacy video card is? I've been reading up on AGP expansion slots and it mentions only people compatible with legacy video cards. I've googled and I can't find anything useful, thanks!

In the tech world the word "Legacy" is used when describing a product that the manufacture simply doesn't support any further.  It's not that the AGP standard itself is "Legacy" just that (probably) all video cards that use the AGP standard are End of Life themselves and don't receive any form of official support any longer.

What exactly are you looking for?  Are you looking to upgrade a old computer with a AGP slot, or are you just looking for general information on AGP?

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Just studying for my CompTIA A+ and I didn't want to take a chance at what they mean as 'legacy' but AGP slots are nearly extinct at this point so this makes sense. Thanks for the help man!

If you need any help let me know.  The AGP era (mid 90's) was when I started doing the whole computer thing and I still have a few AGP capable motherboards and such laying around too!

I've been considering putting together a Windows 95 PIII machine with a RAGE 128 card.

Aww yeah.

I still got some working Athlon XPs, I run them on my test bench from time to time. Let them stretch their sleepy legs with my X850 XT.

I want my own personal technology museum... complete with all the different CPU's of the time.  Most of all I want the crappy ones, cause those are the most fun to play with.
