[PS3] Phatyyy or Slim or Super Slim?

Emanuel_M

So I live in California

Super Slim 109.99 Cpu:45nm GPU:40nm

Slim 144.99 lithography is the same as super slim

Then the 40 or 80gb phat with 2 sub, and looked at the ones with the 65nm CPU and GPU

If I get the phat would it be able to handle games like BO2 GTAV 2k15-16 Or BO3

I'm it would generate more heat, but with good thermal paste, and delid the cup and GPU, and put new thermal paste under, would the phat be good for aesthetic, and overall use?

The fat model can suffer from heat problems, but since you said thermal paste and stuff it should be fine.

Technically the Fat model is the best because it plays all 3 PS games(PS1, PS2, PS3).

smaller the manufactoring process for the CPU the more efficient the CPU will be. get one of the 45nm ones.

Not all of them do

You ever heard of backwards compatibility on PS3....

Yet your post was vague and I had no idea what you were talking about.

...I have no idea how you can interpret that in any other way when you state "Technically the Fat model is the best because it plays all 3 PS games" and I reply with not all of them do. its not like you specifically mentioned any other model...but whatever

I just said the fat model is the best because of its PS2 playback/compatability. Since you said not all of them I had no idea what you were saying but whatever.

lol no look at this pretty much a PS3 with 4 sub ports has ps2 backwards compatibility, but those ones are old and have a very high faliure rate. Only 1st and 2nd gen ps3's can play ps2 games. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3_technical_specifications

PS3 fat is a bitch to work with, and usually already damaged to a point as most people don't take care of them.  I ran into this issue, and games like GTA 5 and Black Ops actually caused heat issues for it.

Super slim has vent issues.

So, I'd say go with the regular slim.

well if I get a fat I'm gonna do a delid, on the CELL and RSX, all ready made my own tool.

Even if you do the GPUs also die all the time. The GPU isn't likely to last, and reballing+reflowing rarely ever helps. :/ I'd just get a regular slim.

ok, I'll do that then. Cuz just for lols I took the chrome accents on the original phats and replace it with the ugly grey on the newer PS3 phats, I'll show you what I mean wait.... I might do this

also reballling and reflow sometimes don't help because the chip itself has been stressed and run at a high temp.

The issue is that the fats came out in like 2005/6ish.  So, they've been abused for a decade now.  The damage is already there, so most won't be fixed by either now as the GPUs they use are so damn weak and have a high fail rate.

yea your right, because if I do get a phat from 2008/09 idk who owned it and how they treated it. I guess I'll get a slim or super slim whichever is cheaper. My chrome swap idea seemed cool.

Unless you want PS2 compatibility, the slim is the way to go. I get around the lack of PS2 compatibility with mine by owning a PS2.

I'd probably get a Slim model because I like the way they look. The desire to play PS2 games has faded to about nothing. I have a 4-port 80GB, but I can't remember the last time I tossed in a PS2 disc. As long as the Slim models are just as easy to upgrade the hard drive as the original, you'll probably be happy with it.

And for what it's worth, mine did die. Ha. I bought it Jan 1, 2008 for 500 damn dollars. It died while playing a Ratchet and Clank game on Dec 28, 2011. I paid the service fee and Sony sent me a refurb of the same model. I think it was $120. Local repair shops charged, if I remember correctly, around $80 on average to fix it. And they didn't have a guarantee because of the possibility of a dead GPU and not just solder re-flowing. (But they wouldn't charge if they couldn't fix it.) I was, and still am, happy I paid Sony for it. If this one ever dies, I'll probably buy a Slim.

i just bought a slim of my friend for $45 dollars. The funny part is that the only problem with it is that you have to push hard on the power button to turn on, his mom got him a new PS3 becuase of that problem.... loLlolOlOl,l
