Gaming CPU needed?

I am planning a budget build. I am currently deciding on these 2 CPU fx 6300 vs i3 4160. This will be mainly used for games like CSGO.

if he had used a R9 280 or R9 280X, he would be at over 200 FPS all the time....

Hell, even with a 270X, he is still above the 144FPS limit, so any 144Hz panel will be "maxed out"

FX-6300 is the better CPU but the i3 has a upgrade path that is better!

for gaming 9/10 times the i3 will take the lead, the only thing the 6300 has over the i3 is multitasking and even than you can get the cheapest 8000 series for about 20USD more so the 6300 is not worth it

also these videos are with the 4130 which is clocked at 3.4ghz but if you put it against the 4170 up against it which is clocked at 3.7ghz and the cheapest i3 atm, the difference will be bigger when the i3 is in the lead which will be most of the time and be smaller when the 6300 is in the lead which is not much

7850 = 265 = 750Ti

 

Also, 4100 is "Bulldozer"... which has lower IPC and lower clock speeds then say the 4300....

look, 4130 vs 4300.... look at Cinebench R15 single and multi thread.... thats the difference between Bulldozer and Piledriver at equal clock speeds.... hell the 4130 has double the L3 Cache and is still worse...

 

Now compare that to 6350 which is clocked LOWER (turbos just as high).

I know from a fact that CSGO only uses 4 threads max, no matter what it doesnt really benefit from any more threads (it can send data to those threads, but FPS wont get higher)....

 

Now, for CS GO only, i3 should get a little bit more FPS, but if you stream, the FX would be more stable (still lower FPS) as the streaming program would be able to use the remaining 2-3 cores and not try to hug the same 2 cores as the game (in intels case).

 

 

I know FX isnt great. But FX 6300 vs i3 really is a hard one to decide...

If you arent sure you will upgrade very soon, FX makes just as much sense. In newer titles such as The Witcher 3, you see the FX 6300 stay close to a locked i5 in FPS, while being VERY stable.... In less optimized games it will suck, but so will any CPU below a Haswell i5.... Be it a i3 or phenom or whatnot....

For the price... FX 6300 is currently a reasonable purchase. It performs on par with the i3, it can be overclocked to have WAY higher multi-thread.

Do note (this applies to ALL FX CPUS) that at around 4.3 to 4.4GHz, the FX scores around 115-120 in Cinebench R15 Single Core performance.... With an i3 being 149 well... 20 points isnt THAT much...

 

As for multi-thread.... to give you an idea how strong the FX is when all threads are running.

A stock Core i5 4690k scores around 599 in Cinebench R15 Multi Thread.....

 

If you OC that FX to say 4.3 to 4.4GHz, it should stay around i5 4690k levels of Multi-thread performance.

 

The cost of getting a FX 6300 to 4.3GHz is around 170 USD total (FX + mobo + Hyper 212).... 170 USD is 20 USD more then a i3 + mobo.....

Who in their right mind would buy a Intel board with 2x Sata2??

Sure you also got 2x Sata3..... but that means you are going to be limited in terms of drive performance. Not to mention you would complicate the build process by having to figure out which port is which.. costing you a little bit more time and a bit more hassle for no damn reason.

 

Also, that B81 board has about as great conectivity in the back as a fucking potatoe....

 

Add 10 USD to intel and you get a realistic setup... stop using stupidly cheap ass boards you KNOW you wouldnt buy yourself.

 

 

EDIT:

As for the AMD build -> go with the ASrock 970m Pro3 board... its cheaper, and ive seen a evidence of them hitting atleast 4.3GHz OC with a 6300... So despite being only 4+1 phase, it has some OC headroom... And as thus, 4 to 4.2GHz should be easily possible.
