I think it looks stupid, puts dust on top of your gpu's because there is never a filter there and opening the door is hard.

depends on where. I had an old case that used 80mm fans. it was on the clear side window that they put a place for a side fan and it was over the CPU. I rotated the side window 180 degrees so it was in the bottom right of the side panel and I used a radial fan on it so it moved air to the GPUs

If you have the option, mount it.

do it! try both intake and exhaust depending on where exactly the fan lines up.  If it is just below the GPU then let it blow in onto the fans, if it lines up straight with the side of the gpu than I find that exhaust works better since GPU's exhaust their air out the sides of the card and then the fan can pull the heat straight out.  made a (negligible) 3c difference in gpu temps and about 2c in cpu temps for me

 

edit: im assuming you do not have a reference style card?  if that were the case I'd intake it all the way

I've put a fan on the side panel and took it off after one day b/c of dust.
