980Ti vs Fury X for modded Skyrim?

TrickyWitcher

The Fury X is about $60 cheaper BTW.

I heard the Fury X has less frame time issues(both cards are minimal though). Someone on this forum mentioned that to me...

Does anyone here have experience with a Fury X or 980Ti in Skyrim?

Id go with the 980Ti simply cuz moar VRAM means moarrrr of those VRAM-eating textures :P

980 TI will probably outperform it, as it seems to already be a bit faster than the Fury X from the tests I've seen. Plus it has more VRAm and modded skyrim likes to eat VRAM.

The 980 Ti may benefit you more with its additional VRAM.

its additional VRAM means nothing considering the speed of hbm allowing for the textures to be Transferred in and put of the VRAM much quicker

Textures still need to be held.

I modded Skyrim to no End and the 980Ti dont know she´s doing anything. Im sure the FuryX can handle Skyrim very good too, no matter what Mods.

That's an answer I want to know too... Even though textures need to be held, HBM does allow you to load textures very quickly. If you're playing anywhere from 1080p to 1440p you should still be fine for 4GB of vram. 4K not so much. One thing to consider though, the creator of ENBs does not develop or test ENBs on AMD card(fanboys) so that may affect the fps you would be getting on the Fury X. But we're not sure how much of a performance impact AMD cards have since everyone is running the ENB fine.

How far do you want to mod Skryim?

That's the magic question.  You can easily exceed 4gb vram with a lot of visual mods with very high texture resolutions in Skyrim, I'm talking 1080p here. If you are buying a top teir card, you're going to want to use those high texture resolution mods, If you didn't want to use those mods then you can stick to a cheaper card, unless your trying to push your framerate to ungodly numbers which is kinda pointless past a certain point in a single player game.

I say 980ti

That's the thing. 4K environmental mods don't cripple your vram just yet. Its the small unnoticed objects with in the world that make your vram usage go further. I've spent some time reading another Skyrim SS thread and this right here:

Is captured on a r9 270x. How is it that still running? I don't know but it certainly isn't magic. His/her build is definitely better looking than many others with 980 tis and Titan X.

Most likely be horrible, jacking up their prices because no competitors.

For everyone saying VRAM: I have the most modded Skyrim I could manage graphically and I BARELY hit 3.5 at 3440x1440. Just say, it's unlikely to be an issue for Skyrim. :P

I was only running 1080p on my skyrim, exceeded the 3.5gb of my 970 and had to disable some mods.  There was still much more I could have modded.  Not that skryim mod makers make the most efficient use of vram(not dissing them, they are amazing), but yes I can easily see 1080p skyrim running 4+gb vram.

After doing a clean install of windows 10 however, I haven't taken the time to go through the process of moding skyrim for the 10th time, unfortunately(along with fallout 3 and new vegas).  Cant see me getting back into that any time soon.  Fallout 4 will be my next moding paradise!

... Do you think it's because of my memory bandwidth on my 980Ti that makes it lower? I have modded pretty much every texture ever, and have a serious ENB setup...
