High End Keyboard Advice/Options

Hello!

Okay, so I'm new to keyboards and such and I wanted some advice on them. I'm getting a new computer build and I'm throwing around $150 at a keyboard. I will be using this keyboard for gaming. My friends suggested the Corsair K70 Mech. LED keyboard. It seems to be pretty popular and the macros are a big plus. Thoughts on this?

Suggest some keyboards!

Also since I am new to the keyboard space I have a quick question about preferences.

If I was to get this keyboard, what are those options for Size and Style for?

What's the difference between the Standard and the Standard RGB?

What MX is better? Brown or red? I assume it is subjective so is there some place I can learn which is best for me? Some video or link to a forum thread?

Thanks. ;)

K70 is a great choice :)

Standard LED lighting means it will come with one color back lighting option and RGB means you can do patterns and all colors if you want.

As for key switches, its all personal preference, I personally would get red switches.

Here are some good guides to mechanical key swtiches

Logitech G502 RGB // Corsair K65 RGB (MX Red)

The K70 doesn't have macro keys.

The K70 is a nice choice, there was someone in the Buy and Sell section selling a K95 RGB for $125. If he still has it, grab it. And enjoy.

What switch do you want? A switch guide is in my sig :)

The K70 is a solid choice so nothing wrong with it.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

first choose what switch you like.

i myself fancy a buckling spring-switch, or a green switch. (with a blue o-ring depending on the situation)

use PCPP and all its glorious filters to find one you like. xP

or join the master race and build your own.

Corsair boards aren't really the best, although the open plate mount is a cool look. Be aware that if you want to get custom caps on it, you won't be able to do the bottom row easily. Also, if you do any typing, I would stay away from reds. They turn my accuracy to poop coming from browns.

$150 isn't really high end for a keyboard, but it is very healthy budget for someone trying to get into mechanical boards. If I were you, I would definitely get a Ducky board. The build quality is better than Corsair, and (IMO) They're prettier, because of the understated aesthetic.

building one is great and all, but if you're doing a full size board, you're going to spend between $50 and $100 on switches alone, with another ~$50 going to the PCB, and about the same again for a case (if you go with a plastic one. Aluminum ones are going to be closer to OPs full budget alone). At that point you're already at $150, and that doesn't include soldering, the plate, or LEDs if you're doing that. Also, @BurgerBum, that layout looks like an absolute pain to type on. Have you actually tried it before? I'd be interested to hear how it is.

@OP, honestly, I would look into more TKL/60% boards. They are awesome and they look very cool. Plus, they are better for gaming, since your hands can be closer together.

Hey! New SIgnature!

I'm supposedly a person on the Internet, but you'll never know if I'm human or not ;)

that fucking cloudflare ddos protection destroyed 6 paragraphs of of my work. so i'll have a more detailed reply in a bit.

excuse me while i go scream and break some things.

i cut about 80% of the meat from my post. im too furious as this is the fifth time its forced me to re-write this.

while i cant argue that doing anything custom with non-off the shelf parts is going to be more expensive, there are many ways to save some money!

such as not using a PCB, and doing custom wiring and using a teensey. they run at 25$USD at the most for a top model. and the wires you need can be picked up off amazon or from any hardware store for like 2 dollars. (for what you need, 5 bucks for enough to master the art xD ) (and custom wiring isnt really that hard, just make sure you know what you're doing. ''its easy to do as long as you reference instructions and advice often'' -someone who's name escapes me at an unknown date)

no, i dont have a keybaord with this layout, however i have had a friend make his note 8.0 emulate that layout and work over bluetooth, and i kept working on it for about a month almost as if it were a full time job. and i've tailored it to be damn neer perfect to how i type.

(i still need to change 2 things, but for the most part its done)

it is extremely efficient for me to type on, quite comfortable.

i use my right index finger for main(spacebar for all you wierdos... and no. its not called enter. its return. xP ) and instead of using a home-row typing style i completely ignore my thumbs and pinky fingers and default my fingers to little oblong triangles in the spaces between the keys.

also CRTL being below shift is just beyond me, and having a right shift is also just beyond me. neither make any sense.

i also plan on moving away from rubber o-rings and simply working out a way to sue a sheet of felt with holes for the key-switches to stop the sound of bottoming out the keys, without making it feel mushy like rubber does. seeing as felt is thin and dense, therefore ''hard'' but at the same time soft and non-solid so it wont many hardly any noise when the key hits it.

Watch out for each other. Love everyone and forgive everyone, including yourself. Forgive your anger, forgive your guilt. Your shame. Your sadness. Embrace and open up your love, your joy, your truth, and most especially your heart.
