Yeah that seems stupid.

I'm tempted to get one, but I'm not.

I don't need an SSD.

Not until they are less than twice the cost of hard drives.

Thing about refurbished SSDs is, how many writes have they got left on them?

Small capacity drives (120GB and 256GB) have been tested by techreport and they last at the very least 1PB.

this drive has 4x that capacity so it would even have substantially longer lifespan so it doesn't matter how much life is left in it.

Plus the drives are "old" compared to current ssds, and you can't even buy them anymore!

edit: I ment that the ssds tested in rights failed so late that you can't even buy the specific models that were tested anymore. Meaning that ssds can be written to almost indefinitely without failing.

A M500 is not old a M4 would be considered old.

I mean its performance is rather meh (not bad but sub par compared to the bx100/mx200/850evo). I did grab one but only because it was about almost 2x GB/USD of an 850 Evo.

These have gone for $290 new (cheapest I've seen this model) so it's only about $100 savings, but still a pretty ridiculous price.

I couldn't resist.  Gobbled one up for a secondary drive.  I suspect I won't need a new SSD for a long time.
