UK to crack down on torrent sites.

Samdb

The UK is at it again, trying to police the internet in a way that they couldn't even imagine having any control over whatsoever. The Intellectual Property Crime Unit will launch in September with £2.5m of the tax payers money, of which they could have kept and helped dig ourselves out of the recession. However it doesn't look too promising as only a few sites have actually been taken down, but they intend to branch out to other countries in an attempt to censor the internet. They will be working with major record labels and movie studios in an attempt to find the source of the content used for "criminal gain". I think this will end up being another FACT, having little to no impact then disappearing after a year or so. The UK needs to stop meddling with the internet, there will be workarounds, like the porn block that is coming which has already been thwarted, and it seems feeble that the UK is the only country trying to stop this.

what a waste of money. There are still people dying by malaria and malnutrition, and they waste it just for that.

You're underestimating the influence of money and modern feudal corporations.

You ussually need to use a proxy or something along those lines. I prefer to use another site if I have to. Much simpler.

There isn't a chance, compare the talent of all of the hackers, and then the government, who seem to be technophobes.

But only £2.5m there's no way they will be able to do anything substantial.

Good luck with that government.

Plenty of ways to get around the "blocks".

Minor inconvenience at best which will be figured out very quickly.

Waste of tax payers money.

Seems hard to imagine as people around me just don't care about gov. or copyright protection. They won't ever have games or movie that is not pirated that is why PS3 up till now is not really popular in my place coz it's not well pirated. While PS4 might be even harder to pirate, many are saying goodbye to console and gaming as whole.

True, but I was speaking more generally.

I'm positive they'll try again anyway. With the debt of Europe, it's not the government scraping that money together is it?
