UK to crack down on torrent sites.

Samdb

To be fair. Blocking TPB worked. I don't use it any more because its too much fuss.

My ISP was forced to block TPB in my country recently, I came back from my vacation to find it was screwed - pirateproxy.net, works like a charm .. just make a bookmark. No fuss whatsoever, literally. The guy ported everything, pretty impressive stuff.

As for the article, it's pretty hilarious. The pornography block thing is to stop child endangerment, where most if not all of the illegal activity is conducted over TOR networks which they can't really block the relays. They've caught the guy behind over half of it, in Ireland just a few days ago - that's a more significant breakthrough than what the UK has planned.

No, it didn't. Thepromobay.co.uk works like a charm. Even if they blocked ALL sites, I'd just use Tor.

You're trying too hard then. Gaining access to it so so incredibly easy.

You might want to edit your post, it's against the CoC.

What I mean, is that its simply easier to use other sites. It's not like TPB will get me better speeds or anything along those lines. Whats the difference apart from the GUI of the site. I get ~5MB/s  either way.

I just use a site that simply searches all the available sites simultaneously and I can pick and mix which ones I use. Why would I use TPB if there are 15 other sites that will give me the exact same result in 1 click, as oppose to 5 clicks with TPB.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea at all.

Nowhere else have I discovered such a wide index of content other than TPB. Unless you can list me the website I have to disagree. Ever other site I have used has nowhere near the same amount of torrents. Other than one other one but I will not mention this as this topic of discussion is not really something to be talked about on Linustechtips forum.

The site I use also searches TPB and I can guarantee you I have never seen a result with less then 3 copies of it on other sites. In fact some aren't even found on TPB.

It's an unclickable link/name. And I don't think it breaks the CoC, just scanned through it. That's like saying, linking to Google is not allowed because there's copyrighted material on the website (kinda). I don't see anything wrong with it

You have me curious. Are you even able to mention it without breaking forum rules?

If I need to find something I usually use this certain RUssian tracker, which has pretty much had everything ever.

I have received several PMs asking me and my answer is no. Try to Google it if you must.

My point was simply to explain why blocking sites like TPB does work.

I honestly wouldn't even hesitate about moving out of the UK if all this absolutely pointless censorship continues to be thought up by the bunch of apes in suits that call themselves "the government".

You can also just use another dns (for example google :8.8.8.8), then you don't even have to bother with a proxy

I edited my hosts file under /system32~ so TPB URL redirects to the proxy automatically. It's something, I suppose.

I moved away from torrents after Virgin Media blocked TPB. Now I've got unlimited usenet access from NewsDemon and I get 7.5MB/s down, job done.

I don't know why the UK or any government bothers with this. I think, in the past couple of years - since thepiratebay.org got blocked - I have gone through many different proxies as and when each gets blocked, all working just as well as the last. A couple of examples: thepiratebay.se, tpb.pirateparty.org.uk (or something like that) and so on and so on. You block one of them, and probably two more pop up. It's a losing battle and it's just wasting tax-payers' money. I've not been earning enough to be paying tax until just recently and the amount of tax that comes off was a hell of a shock to me. To know that my money is going to waste on that is ridiculous! I think the UK government shouldn't do anything without asking at least half the population and not just parliament who don't know what they're on about or how much they're wasting.

Speaking of wasting money, the trams in Edinburgh were a HUGE waste of money and they don't even do what they're supposed to. Why did anyone ever even think of setting them up!? Grrr.. Government, sort yourselves out, ya useless bastards!

IMO any censorship is wrong and we should have the choice to access  material illegal and not, it will start with torrent sites and then more and more legitimate content will be blocked.  What about indie artists that a large volume of interest is generated by sites like TPB where they offer there content free of charge and people still buy it.
