My friend has a budget of $400 and doesn't want to exceed $450 if possible so what would the be best? Mainly for steam games and Smite

GTX 970? Maybe? But we need to know how much RAM is in his system and what CPU he has.

Yeah, I would go with a 390.

Even if it is just a lower end i5, which I doubt it is with that kinda board, the 390 is great performance for the money in any case

I'd be assuming a 3770k or 3570k, none of Ivy bridge or Sand Bridge will bottleneck a Titan X. I'd recommend a 970.

Is that budget in USD or CAD?  If USD, I think 390x would be the way to go.  If CAD, 390 or 970.  any brand is fine, get whatever is on sale.

i would go for a g1 gaming from gigabyte. It has such a nice cooler, if not then msi
