why does it take so long to upload videos on youtube

im uploading a 17 minute video in .mp4 format, I started uploading at 11 and now its 2 30 ... Its @ 74%!!!!!!!!!! is this normal

1. Try rendering it with a lower bitrate.

2. Try getting better upload speed. (I get roughly 12Mb/s up and can upload a 300MB or so video in just a few mins)

it takes me 4 hours to upload 6 mins of footage recorded with Shawdowplay...

Most consumer/home internet plans have at most 1MB/s upload speed, more common are 0.5Mb/s.  So if you're uploading a large video file...

For those saying internet speeds, theyre only half right. I have 100+ uploads and itll get to 99% in a matter of minutes.YouTube has to run your video through the content ID system (for "copyright purposes") and than there are different phase of the upload (actual upload, posting, etc) Much of this can happen during the last 25%.

Australia: 12min video = 192mins upload :) The struggle is real. Try compressing your file using handbrake. Smaller file = faster upload.

Lol. His upload speed is 0.41mbps so they are 100% correct. Plus OP complained about the UPLOAD portion at 74%. The upload and processing takes place in two separate steps.
