PSU Wattage for FX-8320 + 380?

Walter H.W.

Hey guys,

I'd like to know if you think that 530W (Thermaltake Smart SE 530WM) are enough for a FX-8320 + R9 380 combo. It's the only PSU I can get with my budget so it's this or I'll have to get a gtx 960 instead.

This website says: Load Wattage: 432 W Recommended PSU Wattage: 482 W. But the GPU (XFX 380 4gb) manufacturer's website says I need a 650W PSU, I don't know whom to trust.

Thanks.

Anything that has the right amount of cables for your build will do tho you should try to get it from a trusted brand and maybe a little more powerful just to ensure it will last you a while

Beware of him that is slow to anger; for when it is long coming, it is the stronger when it comes, and the longer kept. Abused patience turns to fury.

It's from Thermaltake, I forgot to mention it, sorry.

It's not the best brand but I believe it's not that bad, am I wrong?

Right.Seasonic makes among if not the best psu's, but thermaltake is nor bad nor good, average.

Guys, I've found 600W PSUs from these brands:

LC-Power
Xilence
Intertech Combat Power

MS-Tech

Nilox

Mars Gaming

Argus
Realpower
Antec

Do you know if any of those are good PSU brands?

Are you actually serious right now or still trolling? I found a 600W PSU from EVGA which is a bit more expensive but it should do the job.

Antec is probably the best of the bunch. IIRC Linus or Like used an Antec PSU in one of the scrapyard builds.

Choosing PSUs is often difficult, but you should never cheap out on a PSU.

650W should be alright for you, but I would definitely check out the OEM and look at reviews that can be trusted (I would try to find a review on Jonny Guru).

You can look up most PSU OEMs here:

Best of luck :)

EVGA 600B 600W then.

Thanks.

Antec makes a bunch of good PSUs from that list that you mentioned. The 600B isn't anything great. Also, have you already purchased the 8320 and 380 cuz you definitely could choose better components.

|PSU Tier List /80 Plus Efficiency| PSU stuff if you need it.

I've chosen the components in the relative section, with my budget those are the only options. Please come there if you have any suggestion.

Do you already have the Smart SE or are you buying it?

It's not an amazing PSU but it will get the job done, similar to a Corsair CX

I didn't buy it yet but it is/was the only PSU I could afford for that wattage, now I changed it to an EVGA 600B (600W), and now I'm not even sure which CPU to get so I might take a cheaper one.

What other options are available? The 600B is better but not by a significant amount.
