Hey guys i was looking at a bunch of reviews regarding the topic and every one is running the 2600k at stock speeds and isn't overclocking it. I was wondering what do you all think about it.

Here's one review right here http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/Skylake-vs-Sandy-Bridge-Discrete-GPU-Showdown

My z68 board dies anyway. Im probably going for it.

The Sandy sucked in many ways.

Slow RAM,

slow PCI-E Lane support. (not that it counts, performance wise everything was ok).

But it sucks. Not worth to buy a new or used Board. Sandy is dead R.I.P.

Its really nice to hear alot of people still trusting the 2600k. I love mine, it honestly hasn't failed me yet, the only reason i would upgrade would be to get PCI gen 3 because im sure its making my 980gtx really slow and it could be faster.

Sandy isn't dead at all. I know alot of people still use 2600k runs all games that i play. Runs GTA 5 pretty good as well and I game on 1920x1080 switch is more on the CPU and it runs it good on high settings. Sandys are still good. If you have one that works theres no point in going out and spending 800$+ on a CPU, MOBO, RAM and a PSU.

As i said, performance wasnt the problem.

But when you have a sandy and your motherboard died. you want to buy a board to overclock.

The problem here is that most new boards available from p67/z68/77 are from Asrock. And bad for overclocking.

(mostly due bad voltage regulation less parts build in, bad VRM and so on.)

A used z77 GIgabyte UD7 in my region costs about 400€.

And doesnt even matter which board/brand you choose, if its not from asrock and capable of good overclocking it costs 300€+. (used)

Given that and the personal need of me getting more and faster RAM than 8GB DDR3 1333 for editing purposes.

Leeds me to a price of 450€ or 550€ for a really good board and RAM.

And im not willing to pay 550€ on an outdated Plattform for USED Hardware when i can buy the fresh Platform brand new with alot of added features for 700€.

In addition my sandy+8gb 1333 will bring me 150€-180€ when i sell it. Its actually a nobrainer going for the upgrade.

its a nobrainer for you. But when i build a PC i really dont care about the money, my MOBO was like 270$ and its overclocked just fine. I dont overclock my ram at all. It's sitting at 1600 and its perfect where its at.

I think this will help you best- the last 4 generations of Intel i7s running at the same clock speed to show IPC difference. 25.png

Pretty minor difference.

Looks like there are only a couple edge cases with multi GPU setups that show any real worth while improvement.
