Star Citizen crowdfunding still rising, surpasses $15 million

Another achievement by Star Citizen.

It’s the crowdfund that’s reaching for the stars—Star Citizen has surpassed the $15 million mark according to a recent announcement on its official website. That’s more than enough money to make a game that’d test the limits of even Chris Robert’s PCThe site writes to the Star Citizen community: “ten years ago, big publishers decided space games weren’t profitable… and you are proving them very, very wrong.”

Reaching the milestone has unlocked the escort carrier, a new flyable ship class along with a free digital 42-page “Upgrade Handbook manual” for every backer. The next stretch goal of $16 million has been fleshed out a bit too, promising a laser pistol for pledgers and a new “Arena mode” where players can get in dogfights with each other to earn credits. It’s described as being “a combination of a sports tournament and modern-day gaming contests.”

If that milestone is hit, the $17 million mark promises another flyable ship—the battlecruiser.

Is this just them bragging about how much money they've made off of a game big publishers didn't like, or is this money going towards something?

well they actually have 20 million dollars from crowd funding and private investors. Once they reach 20 million they won't have any leashes on them while designing the game.

Yeah it's a no. If they have investors they want to get there money out of the game and have some influence over how the game is made.

$15 Million is a lot for a single game to pull in. That's a pretty big achievement for Star Citizen.

I think it's a bit of both. If I was Chris I would be reminding big publishers how wrong they were when they sentenced the space sim genre at death by constatly telling them hay we reached X amount of money. However I also know that for Star Citizen to be fully developed like Chris wants it to be I think he sad he would need about 21million. That being said Star Citizen can be made with the money it has right now except that it won't be as high level as Chris would like it to be. I think that they should keep the funding meter up for as long as possible just to make remind big publishers of their failure:D

This was a main feature of Infinity: The Quest of Earth, nowdays I don't know where the game is going. I heard it might be kickstarted. IMO it will be better than SC just for that.

although that is an awesome feature the game appears to lack some of the things starcitizen has like the level of detail, immersion, animations, etc. I would rather board a carrier than have space to ground combat, but thats just my personaly opinion and both games sound awesome!

I am but I only spent $80 on it since I got 2 $40 packs during the last promotion. one for myself and one for my bro :)

I'm also SUPER excited for this game!!

That vid is like Pre-pre-pre alpha footage. Just showing the one probably most amazing feature the game would have AT LAUNCH, if that will happen anyways. I'm sure the continuation of development would include all of the above.

Am I the only one here who is not intrested in Star Citizen as I think its a paymium? You have to buy ships and insurances which counts as microtransactions and I feel its something like Farmvile, where you have to pay to get the good stuff, except you are paying for the base game too. Also, I prefer a good campaign/ story line for games, despite that lowering its replay value. Does anyone agree with me?

Yes, because you're wrong.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

You're wrong. This is just a way for people that back the game to get something in return. Roberts has said on several occasions that this game will avoid being pay to win. In fact, the Star Citizen team has written a few articles on the in game economy. It will run on in game money. And they even stated that they're not allowing people to sell ships for real money. And SC has a campaign.  The paymium fears have been debunked several times by Roberts himself. So... be interested in SC.

I'll play both. :P

I bought a Caterpillar and the pirate pack, and a lot of my friends and family bought the 300i.
