Have Asus 980s and never had any but there 970s are also good. Evga SC hasnt had coil wine any time i have seen it either.

I would personally recommend a GTX 980 if you got the cash :D You got a lot of headroom for overclocking! On paper the difference is not that substantial!

The 980 is around 20%- 25% faster at stock speeds. Why ?

Hey man, take a look at the GALAX GTX 980 SOC. It's way cheaper than the Gigabyte counterpart but performs equally well. (a little bit louder, doesn't run as cool)

i've read alot of posts here about GTX970 and based on that i would totally recommend going for the Gigabyte G1

EVGA was solid when I had two of those. I got my younger brother a G1 960 and seems in particular with EVGA. I'm not entirely sure about the others. Asus with its new fully automated manufacturing process might be something to look out to tbh.
