Best kind of HDD for games?

c_marriott
Go to solution Solved by AlwaysFSX,

Never buy greens, they're so slow. Blacks and Blues are pretty much the same, get a Black if you want more than 1 TB of space... or just get a Barracuda.

Which kind of HDD is faster, black, green or blue? (Maybe others not sure)

It doesent really matter. WD Blue or Seagate Barracuda would be great choices. Actualy anything that is 7200 RPM. Even lower RPM will work but everything will load just sooo long!

WD Black is a waste of money for gaming.

I love greens for slow but huge storage like music, movies and pictures.

I would just buy something else that doesn't take so long to access a file.

Mine isnt slow. When my WD Black turns off the green almost cant be heard when its in a case. Really like em, maybe you got a bad model.

I've used a few of them, all of them have been unbelievably slow compared to even my old laptop's WD Blue drive which is pretty bad. Having it spin up and access data, especially if there's a lot on the drive was horrible.

Since I have power saving turned off on mine I dont know how spin up times are but I like them as a quiet and power saving mass storage option

What? I used it to run the OS, it was slower than others HDDs on the market, but not as slow as I thought, I now use it as a storage drive, it's waay faster than it was before obv. since it doesn't read the OS. IMO if you can buy it for a low price, it's a good storage drive.

I used them as secondary drives so they were always spinning up and stopping because they weren't constantly being accessed. Do. Not. Recommend.

When did you buy them? I do reccomend it, I had the 2012 version and after someone dropped it (it was in an HDD Box) it stilll worked fine, but the box didn't, so I took it out of it and used it as an internal drive. I reccomend them if you find them cheaper than blues.

Weird, you probably have some settings that do that. Anyway, mine is perfect. I'll say it again. I reccomend it for a good price.
