980 or 980ti?

Yoshicus

Hi I'm new here and I have a question. I'm building a gaming PC and I do not know whether to get a 980 or a 980 ti. I have a 1080p 60hz monitor and I want to get a video card that will last for at least 5 years of gaming at 60fps or more. I don't want a 970, but I don't know whether to buy a 980 or a 980 ti. The latter is only about $140 more and give a much higher performance. I'm not sure which one to get. Please help

980ti is more bang for the buck.

Get an AMD R9 Fury (non X). It is the mid point between the two cards.

980ti on 1080p 60hz seems like a waste... I know you want it to last, but a 970 will also last 5 year if you dont turn on settings that dont max every settings.

Either way, go for the 980 ti to the fury/ fury x. generally more bang for the buck than the 980.

neither.. buying a top end card for future proofing isn't a good idea. it just doesn't work.

I'd get a 970 now and then another card in 2 to 3 years.

a 970 is about half the price of a 980ti, and in 3 years say the 1270 would be a similar price but piss all over a 3 year old 980ti.

youll still be spending roughly the same but get considerably better performance in the future.

Who on earth actually expects a card to last five years? I'm sure even my 980TI won't be all that good in a few years. I'd just buy a 970 and use the saved money to buy another card at that price slot in two years. Plus you could sell the first card for ~ 1/2 what you paid for it.

EDIT: Oh, I literally repeated what @Badger906 said. Well, he was right? xD
