Go to solution Solved by OneGun,

They are out..I used them on Far Cry 3 and its alot better..Still some tiny microstutter though..But it use to be horrible..

AMD posted on their official facebook page that the drivers have been delayed.

Yeah this sucks but I would rather have a good working driver and wait then a rushed driver with issues..

This +1

Agreed. We don't want incomplete drivers being released as "stable/official" then  a couple days later find out that the drivers are causing problems with everyone's gaming and rendering activities.

I'll wait the one week, but if they are delayed again then I might be switching to another brand soon.

I jumped ship a while ago, but I do hope this release goes well. I want it to be a tough decision the next time I want to upgrade GPUs.

"Last minute tweaks" Yeah, sure.

The drivers are coming at the end of the week, that's barely a delay, and they obviously can't do anything major in such a short time, so I'd believe them when they say it was delayed for a few days to add in last minute tweaks.

After having waited for so long, does a few days make that big a difference that you would suddenly consider switching. like @OneGun said, I'd rather have a stable and working driver rather than a rushed one, especially since the delay is actually supposed to be very short.

Does anyone have a guess as to when they will be able to implement a solution on a hardware level, like Nvidia? Definitely not as soon as the R9 (9000) series, or whatever it's called now, but perhaps the generation after that, or after that?

lets face it, if they release it before its ready it'll damage their rep and a lot of people will go well its not fixable and then ignore AMD for two-three gens. I'm eagerly awaiting the release as I wish to purchase a second 7970

Hope that this driver also squeezes a lot of performance out for my 7950, with Radeon Pro its really smooth, i hope its the same with this driver.

Depending on when they started the 9000 series, it could have it(maybe in much later revisions).

I bet the next generation after the 9000 series, if not, definitely the one after that.

Since RadeonPro proves you get smoother results with a software fix than actual hardware I doubt it will ever come since it isn't needed.

Someone Correct me if I'm wrong. But Radeon Pro uses a completely different technique to achieve consistent frame pace than what the driver will.

From my understanding Radeon Pro locks the frame rate in at a lower value allowing your GPU/s to be able to render each frame to its complete state before the engine & Driver call for the next frame. You end up with a steady Frame pace but a much lower frame rate than you would otherwise have.
With the Driver instead of lowering the frame rate to achieve constant frame pace, It actually paces each each frame out evenly. Taking the time that was often spent displaying 1 frame for a longer period reducing it to the correct percentage of time allowing the frames that were previously referred to as runts, to have time to actually be completed and displayed.

e.g. at 60 fps each frame should last for 1/60th of a second. or 0.0166...... of a second

What happens with current drivers are some frames may last for 1/3rd of a second. or 0.33 of a second.

Forcing the other 59 frames to have to be rushed out in the other 2/3rds of the second. ending up with runts and drops.

Because of this you notice a physical stutter A long frame that sits there 2 long and then a jerky rush until it catches up.

Radeon Pro would say lock your frame rate in at 40 fps.

giving the card 1/40th or 0.025 of a second to display each frame and with less stress on the card and more time to render a frame less of these long displayed frames with the drops and runts that follow are noticeable.

IT also happens to help that there are less frames being rendered for this to occur with. You can achieve similar results with simply locking your framerate with anything that allows you to (Often inc. the game itself)

From my understanding Radeon Pro does a couple of little other things as well to help this but that the general gist.

New drivers should be designed to stop that 1 frame taking taking up a large amount of time allowing the other frames to fit in as intended.

If someone has better understanding please let me know. But from what I can gather that is basically it.

i prefer when things are released when they work right instead of half baked.

good choice amd unlike nvidia with the shield beeing sold while it s only good feature is still in beta(streaming).

Anything I write is just a comment, take is as such, there is no guarantees associated with anything I say.

@AMDRadeon surely you mean 13.8? 12,8 would be a whole year late :)
