I only recommend tempered glass screen protectors because they actually work.

100% yes but only for good glass ones. They saved my screen from cracking a few times in the past, but they do add a little thickness, but not too noticeable and you get used to it. Haven't got one for my iPhone 6 yet though, and I wouldn't bother with a cheap plastic one, air bubbles and they don't actually do much for protection >.<

Depends but glass screen protectors if you must.

I vote it depends.  Quality of protector and the type of screen can change my answer.  I hate protectors on touch screens as it doesn't always register the touch properly!

To try and protect against scratches I would recommend KlearKut on amazon as its cheap as chips and has the coating on it that resists fingerprints/slides easily. If you want to try to prevent the screen from shattering, PhantomGlass.

Edit: neither screen protector is nipple proof.

I'd personally go for a trustworthy brand that uses proper glass with the rated hardness since a lot of those aren't really true 9H hardness.

This probably explains it way better than I can:

I always recommend a screen protector.  I have worked in the mobile buisness for years and cracked screens are the normal reason I have people returning.  I also recommend one with a mild adhesive as well because they stay put and add more strength to the screen.  Always make sure the brand you purchase comes off clean as well.  The glass type as many have suggested are better if you like those.  I personally prefer  Zagg Invisible Shield Original myself but I've been using them for years.

It's hard to find one that's cheap yet actually good. I've bought way too many cheap Chinese eBay ones that scratched the next day, then I found Nillkin, which is still pretty cheap and doesn't seem like that high of quality but honestly it's just as good as Phantom Glass

Screen protectors are a must for me, and I even take good care of my devices. I usually get cheap screen protectors since I don't mind the feeling of them, but I've had devices with Gorilla glass scratch after a couple months of use(Moto G and Lumia 925).

I always use screen protectors on my phone. I once decided not to and the screen was covered in hairline scratches after a year of light use.

Hmmm, I used to use a tempered glass screen protector on my Note 4, until it suddenly got chipped and I removed it. And ever since, I was too lazy to buy another one and apply it on. I think I actually like my phone better without any screen protectors whatsoever, and Gorilla Glass can do its job quite well.
