Witcher 3 gtx 780 performance

Thelillypad123

So I want to buy Witcher 3 for my PC but I've been reading online that the performance of even the gtx 960 is substantially better than that of the gtx 780 and if that is true, I can only imagine this game running like garbage on my PC. I have a 1080p monitor and my specs are as followed:

I5 4690k at stock

Msi gtx 780 lightning

1 TB caviar blue hdd

8 GB corsair vengeance RAM

750w Evga 80+ gold psu

Asus z97 AR mobo

Can anyone tell me what the real deal is with this game, has it been fixed?

I believe it was a driver problem where Nvidia apparently nerfed performance, but they "fixed" it in a newer driver... please somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

I have GTX770 and I play on Ultra without AA and Hairworks just fine. It is butter smooth but I don't know what FPS I am getting as I don't run FPS meter.

Pretty sure they have (or tried to) fix it with the latest drivers.

@ShadowCaptain has the game and a 780 Ti IIRC, maybe he can provide some info.

-snip-

It was some driver thing I think, because in many benchmarks it showed the GTX 960 performing better than the GTX 780

Heyyo,

Yeah it was a bad driver bug that was fixed in the 353.06 and newer drivers.

Implements optimizations and bug fixes that provide increased performance for

Kepler-based GPUs.

I dunno, it's up to you if you want to get The Witcher 3... but tbh? If you haven't played The Witcher 2 or still my favorite? The Witcher 1? Then I'd recommend picking those up for cheap now and make sure you like those style of games before splurging a lot of money on The Witcher 3 just to potentially find you it's not your style of RPG...

As much as CD Projekt Red are all "our goal is not not make an enhanced edition re-release on The Witcher 3"? It feels kind of like it needs one. This 1.7 patch sounds like a mini enhanced edition patch to me... which is exactly what this game needs. It's not the friendliest game to run right meow... so hopefully this patch improves that a lot.

yeah, nvidia really likes to screw on kepler owners to force us to upgrade. The gtx 780 is vastly superior to a 960, but due to bad drivers it performs like shit. The thing is, the gtx 970 is not more powerful than a gtx 780, so they made the 780 look like crap by bugging out the drivers. Once everything is settled, and reviewers already review the card, they fix it. But by now, everyone thinks the 970 is an "upgrade" coming from a 780...

everyone seems to agree that you are right.

where in the world did you hear that a 960 is better than the 780?

First couple things I read when I looked up benchmarks

I have GTX770 and I play on Ultra without AA and Hairworks just fine. It is butter smooth but I don't know what FPS I am getting as I don't run FPS meter.

Good info

Thanks for the info

It was a driver problem, it's now fixed. The 780 will be pretty good for witcher 3.

Thanks for the info
